Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

Got HAN-YVR with longer layover, ticketed within minutes through OTA. I can't select 1A tho even it should be available per Expert flyer and I added my OWE FFP. Don't want to call even I am sure they know it already. Is there significant difference in term of privacy between 1A and 1K?

I put myself in 1K on my flights, showing a lack of experience in the CX F product (only flown J with them previously). It was just after midnight here, no time for research!
The flights I booked were almost empty when I did that, now there's only a middle seat left on one of them, possibly due to this fare being quite popular.

LOL.... I’d say we all get one helluva deal. For some reason I feel like they won’t cancel the tickets. I can’t remember CX ever having a mistake fare, but if there was how did CX react in the past?

£89 LHR-HKG return in J is the one I always remember. Cancelled of course. Some people flew early on, some were told to fly Y IIRC.

I personally think 2A is the best solo seat as you’re away from the kitchen. On the other hand if you’re on the K side if a middle seat is open, it’s nice to be able to use two seats, one in K and one in D.
I bought this fare for me and a friend and HKG-JFK had 1A and 1K occupied. So we went with 2K and 2D, still unsure about that choice?

With respect to the discussion on how many fares might have been sold, maybe a very rough, back-of-the-envelope indication might be the number of seats selected in the F/J cabin on our flights. On my two long-hauls, only three of the six F seats are selected.

To me it will be interesting if they honor or not. I’m not sure they’re losing out when they get 2k for a seat that’d fly out empty anyway.

With risk of being ridiculed, I just happened to stumble across this deal and it fit perfectly with my plans for two asia trips next year once in march and june. I got first class from JFK - HKG - DAD for $880, my question is what is the difference between and A fare and a F fare? My fare is A fare.

you can do same day turns, just go to transfer counters and rescreen security.
