Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

Remember your FF program doesn’t give you miles when you fly a partner, it’s the airline you fly that buys their miles to give to you. If you don’t fly a segment CX won’t purchase the miles from AA (or whatever your FF program is). And CX can also determine how many miles you’d earn for a given fare, or not earn.

All mine show as REDEMPTION bookings and when I go into manage my booking and try to CHANGE BOOKING it takes me to "Asia Miles Flight Award Redemption" page. Really curious how people manage to see any change options.

Don't forget the CoC says CX will acknowledge your force majeure event - but will then fly you to your destination at another time. In theory once you break that new contract, they can come after you for the reprice.

If anything, it would be treated as a breach of contract. Nothing to do with 'illegality'.

Correct, under normal circumstances. I think we can all agree that these go out the window in this case even though then it's a good question of what other rules the airlines decides to "disable" which customers could come to invoke. Refund? Change after departure? Tough call.

I have this one ticketed directly through the CX website:
HAN-HKG (J)
HKG-LAX (A)
LAX-IAD (A)
IAD-LAX (A)
LAX-HKG (A)
HKG-HAN (Y)
If I try to make a change it takes me to Marco Polo Club Redemption re-booking page but then doesn't list these tickets under my redemption bookings that can be changed. My latest conspiracy theory is that I won't earn points on these flights.
If I try to edit passenger info and change FFP from AsiaMiles to AAdvantage it gives an error message, too "Error: An unknown system error occurred. Please try again later. [E20000001]"
This happens no matter if I log into MP first or if I use Incognito mode and just look up by name and PNR. It happens on Chrome, Firefox, Edge on Windows and Safari on a different machine so likely not a client-side issue. I also notice that when I enter manage my booking CPU utilization of the browser jumps up to close to 80%. I tested this on 3 different machines, MacOS, Windows and Linux. Their MMB pages behave as though they have malware on them or are bitcoin mining or something. Really poorly designed. Does anyone have the link to the legacy manage my booking ? They used to offer the legacy one as a fallback when the new one was rolled out.
Have another ticket that was booked through an OTA, not directly with CX and it's the same story there.

How did you make your change? Online or over the phone? If online, was it for the outbound or inbound, if you don't mind sharing this with us?
