Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

How many are "a couple of bookings" ?
No wonder there was no inventory anymore when some people make tons of tentative bookings just to cancel them a few hours later.
If some bookings were overlapping then Orbitz/CX could have seen these as duplicates. Hard to say but IMHO you screwed yourself royally by not being able to narrow down at least one proper date, make a booking and stick with it.

So in a true amateur fashion, I think I have screwed up with regards to the visa.
Flying into Hanoi having booked premium econ with JAL (AA codeshare only $725 o/w). Applied for a visa under my Irish passport. Paid the $26 job done.
During this process, the wife is saying she wants to hit up Cambodia for 3 days, no dramas. Planning that all out.
From doing more research I see that the evisa is only a single entry but as a UK passport holder (dual national) I don't even need a visa!!!!
So I guess now I will have to apply for a second evisa? Or are you even allowed to have 2 evisa's at one time? Or can I just enter with the Irish, and then reenter with the British?
Moral of the story...do your research!!!!

If some bookings were overlapping then Orbitz/CX could have seen these as duplicates. Hard to say but IMHO you screwed yourself royally by not being able to narrow down at least one proper date, make a booking and stick with it.

So in a true amateur fashion, I think I have screwed up with regards to the visa.
Flying into Hanoi having booked premium econ with JAL (AA codeshare only $725 o/w). Applied for a visa under my Irish passport. Paid the $26 job done.
During this process, the wife is saying she wants to hit up Cambodia for 3 days, no dramas. Planning that all out.
From doing more research I see that the evisa is only a single entry but as a UK passport holder (dual national) I don't even need a visa!!!!
So I guess now I will have to apply for a second evisa? Or are you even allowed to have 2 evisa's at one time? Or can I just enter with the Irish, and then reenter with the British?
Moral of the story...do your research!!!!

For those not familiar with some of the Google flights options, you can search for a whole continent (like Asia) as your destination. I am wondering about the visa's situation as well. can i enter vietnam with a e-visa after having entered and exited vietnam with the visa exemption situation as most european citizens are exempted from visas if single entry in 30 days and less than 15 days stay. I would want to say that will work but not entirely sure... I'll be in vietnam from january 25 until the 26th and from february 1st until the 2nd.... So I should get only one evisa for my second stay?

My understanding is that you can enter with your Irish passport and e-visa. Then, re-enter with your British passport as you will not need a visa.
This is what I plan to do. I am a UK/US dual citizen. I am getting an e-visa for my first entry, and then 3 weeks later, using my British passport to re-enter.
You cannot hold two e-visas at the same time. Also, you cannot re-enter within 30 days of leaving on the same passport unless you have a multiple entry visa.

I've stayed at the HR DAD a few times. Its a really lovely property. It's about a 10-15 minute car ride from the airport. You can just pick up a Grab at the airport (Uber no longer works in VN), or a taxi. Should cost no more than $12-15. Grab is cheaper.

This is not true at all, the fare is still in the system if you use the ticketing date filter on EF - hence the historical fare is easily available. This is more than likely a married segment issue as I've noted - HKG-US may have A available, but Vietnam-HKG-US does not and per the fare rules to use historical fares the routing cannot change.
CX cannot unilaterally ignore the fare rules that allow for changes now that they've honored the tickets, but they can marry the segments/keep A unavailable. There is already an example upthread of someone changing a VN operated flight to a KA (or CX not sure which) operated flight for their parents for ~$100 each, so obviously it is possible.

I just unsuccessfully tried to change my HAN-HKG leg to be able to spend more time in the F lounges (I only have a 1:45 connection). The booking change process almost completed with only the $100USD change fee, but then it said the “flights are no longer available”, however I was still charged the $100 fee.
After chatting on FB Messenger, they said it was due to “the super sale” fare, and the price would change to $15,017 if I wanted to go ahead, or they could refund the $100 change fee.

Back on page 52 or 62 were the links to the visa website where someone said that was the only link you needed and you print it out and just walk into Vietnam immigration with it?But now I can’t find it. Can someone give me the link again? I’m a US passport holder.
