Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

It looks like Cathay have an arrangement with AA to offer access to Flagship First Dining to those who are departing JFK (and maybe LAX too?). May be worth getting to JFK a little early, reviews seem pretty good.

FYI- Same plane turns in Da Nang aren't allowed. Looks like they don't have any transfer desk and you need a paper boarding pass.

i agreed
made a password and everything .
now I downloaded there app
signed in and the booking is not there ...only when I retrieve a single booking I see it .
any one know what that means ?

Was fortunate enough to secure FC HAN-HKG-SFO-HKG-HAN for Feb, but would love some advice;
1. Where should I credit the miles for maximum value? (I'm a Finnair Plus member with over 200K miles, but their program is pretty awful). Was thinking of Alaska Airlines as it seems they offer 350% miles for A fares.
2. Am travelling with hand luggage only, if I decide to skip the last flight HKG-HAN will I have any problems with the airline, eg. "no show fee's" etc...?

wow, little regret for cancelling my booking but congrats to everyone who book tickets. Please make some time to see Vietnam, it's a beautiful but yeah, little hectic country.

Wow...truly the mistake fare of the century. Kudos to those who have the time to fly this route multiple times. I’ll be doing it once...with 11 hours in the pier each way. I think the Han-yvr route is ideal for the daytime ground experience, though I’m a little jealous of those who get to try JFK flagship dining. Not worried at all about positioning to Asia, after 2 jal F and 3 Ana F redemptions easily this past year.

Crowd Souce solution...Help!
I booked via Expedia on my phone at a family members house. I was booking on another site and it kept giving an error. So I moved to Expedia. I booked and was happy.
Somehow (my mistake) I have Y on DAD-JFK, and J on JFK-HKG, when I knew I searched on F and could have sworn I selected F. I recall the pricing being $994 vs. the $600 for J.
By time I realized this, the deal was dead and I could not change. I wasn't sure if CX would cancel, so I left the booking in place but not its being honored.
I cannot imagine that flight in Y. I am trying to figure out how to change or get any. Any suggestions? Or is cancel my only option unless I want to suck it up?
