Based on immunization projections in Asia, I don't think entry to Asia without some type of specialty visa that is not available to most will happen until the Fall.
I'd like to be wrong, but they are not going to open the gates until their citizens are immunized and they are not talking about starting that until May.

These countries that depend on tourism need it asap. If they can open the doors to foreigners with a 'proof of vaccination' app (in the works), they will. Mexico and the Caribbean have mostly stayed open, and while they have their own spikes in COVID cases, they are also getting much-needed tourist revenue.

The US can't even handle the first 1a and 1b phase, I doubt normal people here will be vaccinated by the fall. Not to mention being vaccinated doesn't mean you're no longer a carrier. I have no dog in this fight since I completed my trips long ago but I want to level set people since I'm privy to some high level health decision in Vietnam. No commercial flight until q4 is the standing directive. You can enter under the experts/business exception but still have to quarantine for 2 weeks. Good luck.

It looks like CX has made some additional schedule changes, as my (waitlisted) flight in early March no longer offers F. CX cleared me into J, and sent an email asking me to contact them. I chatted with them on the website, and was told accepting the J flight or taking a refund were my only options.
I called in a bit later and was told they would email a different department to try to move me to later date where F is offered (and could be confirmed). Interestingly, they also asked whether I had approval to enter VN (I would be traveling as a tourist).

We could be waiting some time to find out. So it's the proportion of Vietnam's citizens who are vaccinated that's likely key to opening the country.

Yes, happened to me also. Plane was changed to A350-1000, so no First Class. I was impressed though that the person with whom I had been exchanging emails proactively moved me to March 29 with the First Class leg on waitlist (since there is no A fare inventory). I assume it will clear within a few days like it did before.

Best way I've found is just to email [email protected] and quote the conditions of ticket that on downgrade/flight cancellation, they have to rebook to first available flight in the class originally ticketed if you request it. Don't waste time calling and getting passed around..

It's actually getting worse in Vietnam. The UK covid variant was brought to the country from a flight from Japan. Can't imagine any international commercial flight allowed to land anytime soon.

I have a seat in late March as well. I expect it will be canceled in the next 10 days or so. At that point, I will try to push until June or later. The logic being they are not going to open in April or May either and so why waste everyone's time with these "cancel and rebooks" each month.

It took six phone calls and a lot of polite haggling, but my return from JFK to SGN in first ("A" class) was just pushed from this month to October, which is fine with me.
That was the first date on which "A" class was available.
