Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

Trying to change my SFO-HKG-HAN return flights to a couple days sooner but CX agents have not been helpful. What phone number are you all using to successfully change flights?

I am being told "AA are not allowing us (CX) to change their segments (CX codeshare on CX stock...).
Didn't think the new CEO would impact the front-end this quickly.

Doubt it matters but we did call on the weekend.
The only thing the agent was adamant about was no stopover in HKG. Given we were able to move the dates so easily to next year, we did not argue!

Do you have any AA metal or Vietnam Airlines codeshare in there ? What excuses are the agents giving you for not honoring the ticket rules ?
I am being told "AA are not allowing us (CX) to change their segments (CX codeshare on CX stock...).

Due to the recent CX route adjustments, my flight booked in F from JFK-HKG (11/12) was cancelled and booked into EWR-HKG instead (without F cabin). Orbitz not finding any alternatives in A, though I'm seeing them on ITA Matrix. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? Have not yet taken the outbound (one of those flights was booked into an earlier flight with A class availability though)

The return. I've already flown the outbound. How are you searching availability on BA? I was using EF and searching JFK-DAD and searching for the fare class availability that way.

Due to the recent CX route adjustments, my flight booked in F from JFK-HKG (11/12) was cancelled and booked into EWR-HKG instead (without F cabin). Orbitz not finding any alternatives in A, though I'm seeing them on ITA Matrix. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? Have not yet taken the outbound (one of those flights was booked into an earlier flight with A class availability though)

Had no change of date options as all tied in with other trips already ticketed. That is only other option I see for you-change travel dates.
I asked CX to send me to HAN but they refused to change destination.

Advised today same (7 Nov JFK-HKG) but booked into 9am flight in F. My problem though coming from PSP arriving 515pm means hotel needed JFK and I was not staying in SGN but going to HAN. Will have to call VN to do a flight change. Orbitz had proactively sent me email with the flight option.

Received notification on the weekend I was moved to the 8:35p flight rather than the 00:45a I was confirmed in First on. The notice I got Saturday showed still in First, but today received a new notice and have been downgraded to Business. Trying to get through by phone. Full F is available but on a sled change doesn't the airline have to accommodate you in the original class even if the actual fare bucket is not available?
I thought the CX changes to JFK change in March of 2020. What changed this year in JFK?

As for my situation, after waiting for almost an hour to get an agent on the phone, she was able to put me back into F. There was/is A available on the 3rd November (I'm flying on the 4th) and I was prepared to do an overnight at HKG but proved not to be necessary. This was my third sked change, one of the others involved my HKG-DAD flight that was ultimately resolved.

Apologies if this has been covered for SGN. Has anyone done a same-flight turn at SGN? It's been a few years since I've been there, but I have to imagine they're fairly accustomed to seeing transit passengers.
- The HKG-SGN flight arrives 10:15AM and departs 11:15AM.
- The MCT for **-CX and CX-** international/international connections is 1 hr. Same is true for the Standard I/I MCT: 1 hr. So technically it would be a legal connection.
I've seen reports of HAN and DAD same-flight turns, but wondering if anyone's tried in SGN.

They made interim changes last week reducing the overall number of weekly flights to/from North America.

Found the story... As of October 27, 2019, Cathay Pacific is cutting 3x weekly flights between Hong Kong and New York
Given that YVR is being cut by 3x a week as well, it would seem the JFK-YVR-HKG route is what is being cut 3x a week. (I am guessing you were on that flight.)
I have that flight in November as well. I just checked and it looks fine right now. In fact first is full.
