how fast can you reasonable turn around in CUN
If flying in and out of CUN on separate tickets both issued by AA. Arrive at 9:30 am and turn around and leave at 2:30. Any issue exiting and re-entering almost instantly?
Also, if AA causes delay into CUN and separate ticket out is on AA, will they reschedule the other flight at no cost? |
Immigration at CUN can get seriously backed up.

Mileage may vary
I have had it take 90 min to get through customs and up to 45 min back through security during those times easy. |

Really that long? i guess i am lucky.
i have flown this last 2 years the week after thanksgiving, i have arrive about 5pm i am in the taxi about 6pm. In my way back i have fly at 12:30pm and 2:30pm booth time i arribe to the airport about 110 to 100 minutes before the fly and have clear all really easy, security, customs and all that toke me like 30 minutes. |
Two weeks arrived on UA from Denver (330pm) right after an Asian flight- was very slow clearing immigration -maybe 50 minutes. No experience with morning arrivals.

I wonder how busy Cancun can be during May? I haven't decide between booking 3-5 hours turnaround separate ticket or chilling at some resort for 1-2 day.
I will arrive 1:20 PM. I see CUN-DFW at 443/or 635 PM or CUN-MIA at 450 PM. You think it's a risky play given how unreliable AA seems to be those days? |
I find CUN to be busier on Saturdays and Sundays. I think it is due to the huge influx of timeshare people coming in.

Just flew to CUN over the last weekend. Flew in on AM around 9am Sunday morning. Return Monday afternoon on DL 3pm. At both times, the queue's were moving quick, didn't spend more than 20 mins - 30 mins each time. Plenty of officers at security as well as customs. Didn't have any big bags, just a carry on.

I do not know the rules in Cancun but when I would mileage run to Ascension, Paraguay I'd book the immediate turnaround which was only 90 minutes. On 3 separate occasions, I was escorted to a seated clean area after approaching the first immigration officer and showing my inbound and outbound boarding passes. Sat until 30 minutes before takeoff then was cleared with no visa fee ($75 or $100) each time. Relating this story because I bought the AA HKG-CUN I Class deal and plan a quick turnaround in Cancun the same way. Have already linked PNRs with AA and hope for the best. BTW, if transiting through any Mexican city to the USA, one is due a refund of both Mexican arrival and departure taxes (@$56). Here's AA link. https://www.americanairlines.jp/i18n...exemptions.jsp

I booked a CUN mileage run in June this year with a 40 minute turn or more correctly, same day changed into it. I didn’t really care if I made the flight or not because there were lots of SDC options on the return. Anyways, even at 6am with only one flight ahead of us it took about 25 mins to clear immigration and customs. On the outbound it was super quick and easy, 10-15 mins to clear security etc... I think with your 5 hour turn you should be completely fine, and if everything goes well you might have time for a quick trip to the beach. |
Well atleast youre smart enough just to accrue mileage and not actually leave the airport and go to cancun, Christ
