They will upgrade you, but (in my experiences) only when Y and/or PE are oversold. In those cases, Emeralds are at or near the top of the list for op-ups.

Some decent deals out of JFK. Around $1400 or so to BKK/SIN.

Probably would jump if AA didn’t jack up EQD requirement to 15k. It mean 6 SFO-HKG r/t or 4 JFK-SIN trip. Figure it’s not worth my money to chase AA EXP or even Alaska 75k MVP. Will wait till this weekend to see what other carriers come up on BF deals.

Got the promo email from CX but hadn't seen it until this afternoon and wouldn't have focused as much on it as seeing the post here. Booked a 3-day trip over an April weekend for $773 a/i. Thanks for the extra broadcast, OP!

Paid a bit more than that for a same-day turn in January, and all on the Airbus 350-10. Awesome.

Such a great rate. Has anyone tried using CX miles to upgrade PE to J?
I just can't do the long haul without lay flat.

Not an eligible fare (at least for this sale). Upgrades are only valid for PEY booked in W or R. This is booked in E.

Happened to me a couple of times as an AA EXP between JFK-HKG a few years ago, but the last 4 trips (including today's) no dice. On my outbound flight the J cabin was half empty and no (op-up) upgrade offered.

Not complaining; PE is perfectly fine and is what I paid for.

By the way, on today's flight the food in PE appeared to be exactly the same as in Y, except Y had chocolate ice cream while we got vanilla. So don't buy PE for the food (as if anyone buys a plane ticket for the food).
