[PREM FARE GONE] Philippine Airlines, LHR-HKG, £500 J return

Top tips for the "Dim Sum / Chicken adobo" fare:
  • At more than 5 weeks after most of us booked this fare it looks increasingly likely that the fare will stick. However prudence is still advisable and we should all avoid contacting the booking agent and if essential to contact try to deal with the airline direct.
  • Check that your original itenary is intact and ticketed as PAL revised their LHR flight schedule in early September and there appear to now only be 5 flights a week now rather than daily. Use TripCase to do this - see post #114 on how to do this (thanks to @MyFlights App). If you have incurred an involuntary change you can contact PAL and they will permit one change to amend your itenary. They appear to be flexible to shift flights to adjacent days, but if you try to push to be rerouted on another carrier to maintain the original itenary times you might find your flights are cancelled and you end up with a refund.
  • Online seat assignments are not possible on PAL when booked through a 3rd party, you have to call up, it is best to call PAL on 0808 164 9888 rather than the booking agent.
  • Whilst it looks like the fare is going to stick be aware that making other travel arrangements around this booking are at your own risk so consider making bookings that are refundable or covered by insurance if needed.
In hopes that this will go ahead, here's a wiki to see who's going and when.

Thanks for the detail on how to get to the eticket via Tripcase, I had missed that button where you can enter the PNR for the record to be brought back from the GDS and airline systems. Forwarding the travel confirmation definately doesn't do the same thing, it's just screen scraping the email content to build the itinary.

Does anyone know if Tripcase actively monitor the booking to tell you if it gets changed?
I too miss @MyFlights App.... but very nice to see that they can take a bit of a break in HK

airlone? most likely they never received your email address

being a OTA specific thing, you’ll most likely hear from them.
But not during the first 24 hours... save your stomach ache for something else

Bought through Trip.com and got seat assignments from PAL UK call center without any questions. Not sure if any change will happen but I've already booked a connected flight back home!

oh boy. I will not comment on other aspects, but everyone here would strongly advice against booking connecting flights THIS early in the stages. Many things may happen that can cost you the entire sunken cost of those flights. Unless you are booked for this weekend there is absolutely no need to book positioning flights.

Welcome to FT mliii,

Good to know that the PAL UK call center didn't bother. Thanks for sharing!
But please don't call the airline and/or OTA in such a short period. That's a basic rule for such incredible "flash sales" ( btw that should be the terms we should use for such fares ). We have to limit a max of human interaction here. Thanks for your understanding, mlii and others.

Fingers crossed for everyone, but not much hope yet since they're probably just realizing by now what happened and starting to pick up all the data to see how big/high it will impact them.

Actually, arriving into HKG quite late, I am wondering if it's worth adding the first night hotel onto the booking I have with lastminute - it seems I can do this within 24hrs of the booking for it to comply with the package travel arrangements and probably have more protection...

Have others got any opinion about this?

1) Sign up to TripCase if you haven't already
2) Under "My Trips" click "Create New Trip". Do *not* forward your booking confirmation
3) Give your trip a name "flash sale" and create the trip
4) Then click on Link a booking
5) Enter the first PNR listed in the email from lastminute.com

Now if you go into Documents you'll see the E Tickets and you can see the full fare basis etc.
Thanks for the tip about tripcase... Just downloaded the app and followed your instructions with the PNR and it worked a treat! Waiting to see what happens...

I would not be making any additional travel plans, visas, hotel bookings etc until the dust has settled.

IMO adding extras to your booking is only drawing more attention to it, unless you are traveling immediately I would advise against it.

The only protection they are offering is if their company becomes insolvent.

2 strict rules for this type of fare.
1- don't book anything else until at least 2 weeks post booking.
2- don't call the call centres... You can only bring attention you don't want..

I think you might have just ruined everybody's trip haha

Thanks for the advice! And really sorry if I broke the rules. It's my first time to get this kind of fare.

I'm not quite worried about the connecting flight as it's just a 4500 Avios flight by Cathay Dragon - just to secure a seat in advance.

About the seat selection, I have this trip next February and the Business cabin in both my return flight are not that empty - half full for both MNL-HKG sectors and 13/30 for MNL-LHR. I'm not sure if PAL is that popular but I believe there's already someone called and asked for a seat with this fare.

And just for discussion, PAL has sent me their confirmation email with fare details, shown as IT for the Fare (Fare Basis Z9ITPRGB). Does anyone know what's that supposed to mean?

Is this fare flexible?

I managed to pull all the information and actual e-tix info using the TripCase method described earlier. Worked great, thanks!

What's interesting, the fare notes on the etix show "Not Valid After" dates about 60 days later than the date of both departure and arrival. Does it means that the ticket is flexible within? It means changing dates is possible at no cost within that timeframe?

Hope this sticks for people. I was tempted but put off by the timing of the return flight - felt like a wasted day - would probably have taken it if QR though

As I posted earlier in the thread, emails came back saying "credit card denied". I also had no charges yesterday so I figured it really was denied.
Today I checked the itinerary and it said ticketed. I now have charges pending on my CC and tripcase provides a ticket number.

How do I find out what aircraft I (may) be flying? Seatguru?
