Worth noting that doing this on return it seems those in the know follow the transit route on arrival as the queues to clear the border are much shorter there and you all end up in the baggage hall anyway.

my experience
I have 20h stepover in Manila
prebooked Hilton
It just take me 5 minutes to go outside airport from plane...be one on first in Biz helps so no que at Passport check
Agent just asked me if how many days im staing so explained what just over night and showed him boarding pass for next day flight to HKG (it was printed in London) so when i was at baggade hall and saw exit just went where with just hand bags its quick, and happy to see free transfer couch to hilton waiting aoutise after one minute I was on the way to hilton which took 30minutes and I had time to enjoin executive lunge as a diamond and got deluxe suite free upgrade from standard room....
mind the mind what I'm second time in Manillla so they had already my records from October 2018....

Has anyone had miles post for a retrospective claim through Etihad yet? I submitted my claim ages ago but still nothing aside from the acknowledgement that it was received and would be processed etc. Is it worth chasing Etihad?

Bit late and after my first Biz experience. It was absolutely incredible. Cant say anything that has not already been said but miles were added to my account after scanning each boarding pass and sending this info to PAL (for my wife and child too). This week I have been given the full miles but with the bad news that from 30 June 2019 (two weeks) we will now not be able to use the miles through Etihad Airways
I was planning on taking their PRG-ICN one way on Biz using Czech Airlines for 23k miles (already have 18.5k and was planning to transfer some Amex preferred rewards). Which is thoroughly labelled as one of the best Biz redemptions for low mileage.

Just to re illiterate for those having issues with mileage accrual.
Keep your boarding passes.
Sign up to a Mabuhay miles account if you havent already. https://www.mabuhaymiles.com/en/enrollment
Scan your boarding passes when back home after journeys are complete.
Send them along with name, account # to mabuhaymiles AT philippineairlines.com
Received mine within a day or two.

I’d prefer Etihad miles.
I have claimed mine, but haven’t received them yet... But that shouldn’t be a problem, right?
After all, I’ve already flown my ticket.

Login to your Etihad account,
right under your name there is a button "claim missing miles"
Once you have filled in the information, they need, just sent it away. Then after a few days you get an email from Etihad the telly that you have to be patient because Philippine airlines have to give their approval, It takes another four weeks and then hopefully you get your miles credited

I went through that form for each flight, but for me at least (hence IME) they insisted on copies of boarding passes. I found photos I'd taken of the first two and those miles credited a few weeks later. Then when clearing out a bag I found HKG-MNL so took a picture and those credited too. But MNL-LHR they aren't crediting. Perhaps I was unlucky, fingers crossed for everyone else
(NB. my EY account was opened 3 years ago, and miles from GA posted without any manual claim back then.)
