Top tips for the "Dim Sum / Chicken adobo" fare:
  • At more than 5 weeks after most of us booked this fare it looks increasingly likely that the fare will stick. However prudence is still advisable and we should all avoid contacting the booking agent and if essential to contact try to deal with the airline direct.
  • Check that your original itenary is intact and ticketed as PAL revised their LHR flight schedule in early September and there appear to now only be 5 flights a week now rather than daily. Use TripCase to do this - see post #114 on how to do this (thanks to @MyFlights App). If you have incurred an involuntary change you can contact PAL and they will permit one change to amend your itenary. They appear to be flexible to shift flights to adjacent days, but if you try to push to be rerouted on another carrier to maintain the original itenary times you might find your flights are cancelled and you end up with a refund.
  • Online seat assignments are not possible on PAL when booked through a 3rd party, you have to call up, it is best to call PAL on 0808 164 9888 rather than the booking agent.
  • Whilst it looks like the fare is going to stick be aware that making other travel arrangements around this booking are at your own risk so consider making bookings that are refundable or covered by insurance if needed.
In hopes that this will go ahead, here's a wiki to see who's going and when.

Will download the app for online check in.
If we skip transit stamping at manila would it cause any trouble while boarding?
You can't avoid the transit stamp. You have to go through security, then up a few floors back into departures.

Just checked in for tomorrow and have been put on standby for the MNL-HKG leg. Any advice?

Bugger. Nothing too constructive to add that you probably haven't already thought of. Get to LHR early and see if they can help, don't be too scared of a downgrade its not a long flight, usually less than 2 hours. If you're booked on an A330 service they have premium economy too.

Are you in Hong Kong for long?

Possibly the transfer desk or lounge staff at MNL can help if you get nothing at LHR. Otherwise be at the gate well ahead of boarding if you're still standby.

Agree with what the others say. You could try calling the PAL reservations customer services line - I've found them helpful in the past. Otherwise get to LHR early, and speak to ground staff in MNL. I'll be on the flight this evening so will say hello.

Got boarding pass at the gate at LHR.

Arrived at HKG. 40 minutes sat on tarmac. Then a bus. 40 mins at immigration. 1 hr 45 to landslide. 30 minutes taxi queue. Having landed at HKG at 11.10pm, I reckon I’ll be in Kowloon for 2am maybe.

I'm not able to check in online and got the following message: "None of the journeys retrieved are available, please contact an agent at the airport". Anyone else had this issue?

EDIT: I'm dumb. I'll try again when it's T-24h...

That's seems to be very bad luck with the buses, but I think it's standard operating procedure for that late night flight into HK to be parked on the apron for the overnight stop and be a bus gate. My guess is that with the bus delay immigration was down to minimum overnight staffing hence the extra delay there. Hopefully it didn't take the shine off the overall flight experience for you.

Edit: just seen over in the CX forum that there was a lot of disruption at HKG from afternoon on the 19th through the evening due to a red thunderstorm forecast that meant that the whole airport was at a standstill for several hours late afternoon.

I think it was bad luck. Every other time I’ve been through HKG its been immaculately efficient.

My tip on the buses is stand at the front of the bus (either side) for fastest access to the terminal building.

Some thoughts on the outbound flight...

T3 is dead quiet at this departure time.

Club Aspire lounge is poor by the standards of T3. Not awful but I wouldn’t pay to access it.

A350 is nice. Don’t go for row 1 or 2 or 7 - too close to loos.

No champagne offered pre take off. But if you ask for it you will get it.

Food was decent. A good mix of options. And it tasted good.
Drinks also good.

IFE reasonably good. Free WiFi!

When you get off at MNL turn left off the airbridge for connections. The transfer desk can have a big queue, so be quick.

MNL Lounge not the best. Food was cold.

A321 to HKG was comfy. Row 1 has less leg room than other rows due to bulkhead.

LHR-MNL: A350 business class is really really good. Seat is among the longest and widest I've ever seen. Only downside is poor selection in their IFE. My second favourite business class so far next to QSuite.

MNL-HKG: Airport is shabby, so is PAL's lounge. Flight is perfectly adequate, but due to the terrible air traffic control I almost missed my connecting flight in HKG. Thankfully the PAL agent checked my luggage through the final destination, and someone was already waiting for me with my name at the gate at HKG😂

Had a great flight MNL -LHR, food was tasty, seat comfy, service was excellent, attentive, within 30 sec of pressing the call button crew were at my side, plenty of champagne and French red, cherry pie was a lovely attendant, yes that was her name. For $500 usd it was absolute bargain. Staff at lounge were friendly enough and printed/delivered onward separate boarding passes to us in the lounge dining area, double jd blacks were not a problem. I really enjoyed the flight, just wish they gave PJ’s.
