Thanks guys! This is fantastic. One last question. When i initially purchased my ticket - I think I applied my frequent flyer to an alliance airline. Do I need to ping HK and have them switch over to my FWC account?

Also dont you start off as a standard user - not select?

Trying to find this on the site - near impossible!

[edit] For anyone else - I jumped on the chat - only 8 people in queue but it still took about an hour before I reached a chat specialist. Just gave them my FWC # and they associated it for me!

Yes you start as a regular member. I have flown HX enough before to reach select. No benefits of select over regular.

Here are the tier levels and benefits: HX Membership Tiers

Just reached out to Expedia to change my return flight from HKG to SFO back a two days, so I can have a two day stopover.

Caveat that my HKG to SGN got downgraded, so we'll see how this go.

I've been wanting to do that as well but I'm flying to BKK (i.e no downgrade) and also booked through Vayama (not as nice as expedia)

Have not yet received a update from Expedia about my request to reschedule. But a rather interesting development is that my current flight DEP on the 21 got cancelled and I got rebooked to the flight on the 22 along with a flight dep time change from noon to 5pm.

construction work at SFO is the cause of this. You should have received another email that your flight on the 22nd is now back to the 21st but at 5PM.

I got a update a few hours later, but the new flight times will cause miss-connect on HKG-SGN, offered expedia rep to repo to LAX to try to make the original times work

Side note: What construction work would cause a flight to be delayed ~5 hours 3 days before departure? I know that the smoke coming from fires is wreaking havoc on ops right now, but construction??

Interesting, apparently today's and Wednesday's flight 61 (SFO-HKG) are cancelled even though the aircraft just landed this morning. By construction, do you mean all that remodeling going on at Terminal 1?

It shows cancelled on every site but Hong Kong Airline's own site which shows it was re-timed to the 5PM departure. Make sure to check your status on the official website. According to Hong Kong Airline's website, the construction is "crane operations" nearby. I was so hopeful that the smoke would be clear by Wed and my flight would be fine and dandy then this email happened, go figure.

I flew this a few days ago and on the outbound (LAX-HKG-PVG), they asked if I would be willing to take a nonstop MU LAX-PVG flight and I said sure. I was in the J mini-cabin and it wasn’t bad.

Nice. Shorter flight time, and SkyTeam points.

Just got back from my SFO-PVG trip

A quick report:

SFO-HKG
HKG-PVG
PVG-HKG
HKG-SFO

No hassle with any of the flights. Love the service, love the food, i actually ate a bunch at the HKG lounge.

no hassle with middle name not on the reservation.
HX honored the ticket and the service all throughout was wonderful.

Enjoy the trips you have coming up.

Anyone having issues with self-printed or mobile boarding pass for U.S. departure flights? I was able to check in online and got a boarding pass in PDF form. I'd rather skip the airport check-in counter since I probably won't have to check a bag.

what kind of issue do you worry about?
with a self-printed boarding pass, you'll have no problem using it at TSA screening to get airside.
if HX issues you a real boarding pass at the departure gate, who cares?
