I just got an email about my flight next March SGN-HKG, slight time change and business to economy. I haven’t called them, I’m wondering if there’s an equipment change.

At this point it doesn't hurt to double check with the airlines. My booked seats are still there (blocked) and if I use HX's app they're all in Business.

Only shows Economy (J) under Expedia itinerary.

did you have any luck with this? I have a very sick newly pregnant wife and might have to cancel or postpone

I just flew LAX-HKG-BKK R/T and everything went smoothly (other than almost missing my LAX-HKG flight due to traffic on the 105). I think I was the last pax on the plane for the first time in my life. I thought the service and the food were ahead of CX. Lounges in HKG were a bit below CX standards but exceeded many other carriers in the region I often fly. Seats requested via online chat were all honored. Overall, my low expectations were exceeded.

I'm flying LAX-HKG-BKK r/t again in a few weeks and then LAX-HKG-DPS r/t in December.

Service and food just a bit below CX? Wow. That's saying a lot. Can't wait until January . . .

Sorry, I guess my post was confusing. I felt the food and service was better on HX.

No - I misread. Seems clear when I re-read it now.

Then I really can't wait! CX is just about my favorite - maybe with JAL.

Have you found out any more re: this? Received emails downgrading us to economy on legs from HKG-SGN and SGN-HKG in January. Only one slight time shift, equipment still shows an A320. Received email notifications from Expedia and then 2 from HKA (one for each leg) yesterday.

There were some recommendations here a while back on potential options for schedule adjustments, does anyone have that post #?

The official GDS is TravelSky. You can validate your ticket numebrs here: http://www.travelsky.com/tsky/validate.

The site is very tricky. You need to enter your 851 ticket number (shown by Expedia), your name in LAST/FIRST format (DOE/JOHN or DOE/JOHNA, or DOE/JOHNMR - try various combination if you get an error), and a captcha-like verification code (tip: click on the image to get a different one until you get something you can read; if entered correctly, a green check appears next to image). The system frequently errors out due to "overload" , but once you get through, you will be able to see an "official" ticket receipt as exists in HX system.

Oh, and the TravelSky site is in Chinese, so use auto-translate function of your browser.

Great!

I just got one of these emails from Expedia. My SGN to HKG will be economy-only!

What recourse do you have?

Should Expedia rebook me into another carrier?

How would you proceed? Thanks!

I received a similar email for my HKG-SGN segment. Spent about an hour waiting for the live chat on Hong Kong Airlines site only to be told they couldn't provide any info since it was booked third party. Couldn't get that TravelSky site to work.

It appears that HX operates some A320's in an Economy only configuration which might be the reason for the downgrades some of you are seeing on HKG-SGN.

I called Orbitz yesterday, prior to my call, I looked on HX website and noticed no J available for my date, but was available the date before and after. I asked for the date before. Orbitz called HX and they rebooked without charge. The call took less than 10 minutes.

I spoke too soon because, now my HKG-SGN segment has been downgraded to Y. I guess another call to Orbitz.

I’m wondering what the are doing to this flight because equipment is still the same, A320. Hard to believe they took away J seats all the sudden.

Do you mean even after you changed to a J flight, they downgraded it again?
I'm having the same issue with my HKG to SGN segment. SGN back to HKG remains in J.
My entire Expedia itinerary is reading as Economy.
