[PREM FARE GONE] HX: LAX-PVG rt in J ~$580ish

I have no problems with people posting fares and discussing them. My problem is everyone is quick to shout "ERROR!" when you don't know that. It has been shown time and time again that people calling a fare an "error" on FT is used as evidence to cancel tickets, even if the fare wasn't an error (e.g. most BA sale fares)
And, no, the lack of being published or getting pulled quickly has nothing to do with its legitimacy. Airlines do hub attacks all the time that only last a couple hours. In the very recent past most of CX best fares were only available via their website and weren't published.

It's obvious that it's an error when you compare it with their other published prices. They intended to price it at US$5600 and accidentally put HK$5600 instead.
That's ridiculous. No airline needs to point to random FlyerTalk posts as "evidence" of anything. The DOT has given airlines cover to call just about anything an "error fare."

No, I'm dead serious. All the airline has to do is say "it was an error fare," and they're clear. Suggesting that HX needs to point to internet comments as justification is borderline ludicrous:
- DOT: I think this is a legitimate fare and you have to honor it.
- HX: We disagree; it was an error.
- DOT: Sorry, we think it was legitimate.
- HX: But look! Some people on an internet forum called it an error!
- DOT: <gasps> Well I'll be! Since everything on the internet must be true, and since the term "error fare" is so well defined, that settles it; you're off the hook.
American maintains that the explosion of social media mentions not only prompted significantly more bookings than normal, they also put readers on notice that the fares were published by mistake. American states that in numerous social media contexts, posts were made characterizing the offered fares as a “mistake fare” and urging consumers to purchase them quickly and not take any actions that might alert American to the fact the mistaken fares had been offered.3 In American’s view, social media posts acknowledging or recognizing that the fares were offered by mistake yet urging readers to rush to book them shows an intent to cheat, as many consumers knew the fares were not valid.
American lost the case, but it is nonetheless abundantly clear that social media posts – like the ones you have made – are playing a role in airlines’ defenses.Come on. That’s not what skunker said. It was clearly directed towards the use of the e word.
Oh lord. Please, please don’t use the e or the m words. You do none of us any favours.

Yeah, ever hear of William Shatner?
Wasn't planning on going to Asia, but got in an hour ago and will go to PVG off-season with this ticket.
Maybe I can use my Mariott certificate there! =)

IN REPLY TO: Just booked a SFO-BKK return via Priceline, although I have a HX confirmation number I do not have ticket numbers. Anyone else get ticket numbers immediately?
I have ticket #s for the trips I booked (but in other cases - Air France First "deal" - I had ticket #'s and they still cancelled). Fingers crossed these stick!

True, AA does that as well. It's one or the other and I'm not seeing a hold option with HX.
