AFAIK airlines can choose whether they want to offer free cancelltions or holding reservations for 24 hours without payment.
QR does the latter (but the option is hidden really well) so they can avoid offering free cancellations.

Find the booking class and use that. Looks like VA might be an option.
seems to say that that VA isn't included on flights to or from America..

To all the negative nellys, have you seen coach fares on these routes? ~$500 US in many cases. Business on Air China and Hainan is ~2$k. HX is trying to break into a crowded market with no relevant partners. Seems like creating a buzz with a flash sale is the perfect way to do that. ^

And I'm NOT just saying that because I am booked to BKK in January!

Does anyone know if that's true? I don't see anything on VA's website that says HX to/from USA is excluded in earnings.

Totally legitimate fare I agree :-)
We really need to DOS attack SF to end his blasphemous speak of EF's

I would not have flown them but this fare was impossible for me to refuse. If they do well on soft and hard products they could now be in the running in my future bookings.

Same.

And the routings are superior to PEK or CTU.

My girlfriend and I booked SFO-BKK trip last week of February. We had to use Vayama to score the deal as Expedia was already dead.
Does anyone have any experience with them? We don't plan on making any changes hopefully, at this point we are all hopeful the fare gets honored

Great find OP
I found this for $646 each - so you can get it a little cheaper with the right dates.

Anyone know if we can standby for earlier flights? Have a 13hr layover in HK that I would like to minimize

No, I'm dead serious. All the airline has to do is say "it was an error fare," and they're clear. Suggesting that HX needs to point to internet comments as justification is borderline ludicrous:
  • DOT: I think this is a legitimate fare and you have to honor it.
  • HX: We disagree; it was an error.
  • DOT: Sorry, we think it was legitimate.
  • HX: But look! Some people on an internet forum called it an error!
  • DOT: <gasps> Well I'll be! Since everything on the internet must be true, and since the term "error fare" is so well defined, that settles it; you're off the hook.
Whether the fare will be honored or not, I have no idea, but I'm entirely confident that comments made on this board will play no role whatsoever in that decision.
