This also seems to be available from other origins in NZ, e.g. ZQN (Queenstown) is $1454NZD

Great find. Thanks OP.

If ex-US you can spread it wide to turn it into two trips for $1800 plus an outbound SFO-OAK. eg:

Alternative method, either $ or miles:
SFO-OAK January

$900 for
AKL-OAK January
OAK-AKL September - step off in SYD if you want

$900 for
AKL-OAK September
OAK-AKL Drop these legs

I was in such a hurry to book I accidentally booked one of the longhauls on DL metal. Anyone know if their 777 J product is that bad?
Not sure if it's worth calling Amex to cancel & re-book, it will likely be dead by then.

Still alive, just need to play around with the departure cities and destinations. Much more availability out of Wellington (WLG) and Christchurch (CHC) to second and third tier destinations such as Boise, Idaho (BOI), Palm Springs, CA (PSP), Portland, Oregon (PDX), etc.

I suggest you cancel the one you don't like after you make the other booking.

If Amex has free cancellations within 24 hours, I’d book a different ticket, and then cancel the unneeded one.

DL isn’t horrible. I think Seatguru has them at a 21” seat width compared to a 23” on VA.
