When British Airways do cancel, you have a good (IMO) chance of winning compensation in the UK Small Claims court process *IF* you believed this was a valid fare and not a mistake. If you believed it to be a mistake, then you've no chance, but otherwise you can reasonably rebook a full cost business or first ticket and claim that back via Money Claim.
British will almost certainly cancel these as they know most people don't bother (same goes for their general poor treatment of customers overall). I firmly believe they simply don't care any more - current management does whatever they like in the interest of cost savings regardless of what's allowable anymore.
If you don't rebook any equivalent flight (with a new ticket cash or award), you'll have trouble claiming much from them as you won't be able to show damages. If you do this in US Small Claims, I've no idea.
There are lots of folks with similar cases out there, so when it comes time I'm sure you'll find helpful advice. But the crux of the argument is your own intent when booking and to pursue this in court you need to honestly say to a judge you believed this to be a flash sale or otherwise a valid fare and not in error.
Not a lawyer, not legal advice, YMMV and such.

When British Airways do cancel, you have a very decent chance of winning compensation in the UK Small Claims court process *IF* you believed this was a valid fare and not a mistake. If you believed it to be a mistake, then you've no chance, but otherwise you can reasonably rebook a full cost business or first ticket and have a very good chance of winning using Money Claim.
The test is also whether the non-mistaken party should have known it was a mistake.

Just had BA call the number I registered on my booking and say it was not a valid booking and since the charge had not yet gone through their system, no refund as nothing was actually charged 8 hours ago. Oh well - too good to be true.

A fancier approach, one frequently threatened in these threads but seldom employed, would be through the courts. This doesn't have to be expensive, but it's an awful faff. And it's not clear what you'd be suing for - an order that BA perform the service it agreed to, or compensation for the £5K ticket you were forced to buy in the wake of a cancellation. That second avenue would be risky!
Better just to suck it up.

but it's your ticket is being cancelled, not the flight.
That makes it a contractual dispute between you and the airline. Essentially, you're on your own.
Getting your money back plus credit card/forex costs might be classed a victory

Fare mistakes are subject to general contract law in exactly the same way as other online mistakes are, and British Airways has the legal right to rescind any fare, even after payment has been taken, as long as a reasonable person should have realised it was a mistake. The discussion on this board alone should be sufficient evidence that a reasonable person would recognise this offer as an error.
