Its really disappointing. Don't get me wrong...still far superior to economy, but definitely not up to the standard I was expecting.

Luckily still get to fly the 789 from HND-SYD!

Got email from ANA early today.
''upon checking the information ANA Flight 115 from
Vancouver to Tokyo-Haneda has an aircraft change from B789
to B788 for flights scheduled from August 31 to October 28 due
to maintenance. ANA has scheduled maintenance for flights to
ensure the safety of our passengers and crew members. Due to
this reason your flight from Vancouver to Tokyo was also
selected and aircraft has changed to B788 instead.
As aircrafts are subject to change due to operation needs and
may not be guaranteed. We truly regret to inform you no other
options can be provided in regards to changed aircraft. While
we do not underestimate your disappointment, we request your
kind understanding in regards to our changed aircraft. ''

Got this too. But until I saw your post, I totally missed how crappy the seats are on this bird.

As another data point, I'm traveling in early October and I called ANA today and earlier this week to speak with agents about the aircraft change.

While they were sympathetic, I was twice told that any routing change, i.e., HND-YVR to HND-LAX-YVR or NRT-SFO-YVR, would force a reprice of the entire itinerary. Not sure if this was just a function of availability or built into the fare rules. They looked into accommodating me on Air Canada's NRT-YVR, which was apparently an option, but it was unavailable around my travel dates.

Your mileage may vary, but it's worth giving them a call to see what they can do. You may get lucky.

I think they will not accommodate any requests to change anything on these tickets without fair difference being charged

That is what I was told when they called me to ticket, but then we should be happy to be going at all since the cradle seats are still infinitely better than economy seats.

Any changes like that will require paying the fare difference, which is going to be thousands of dollars.

You're absolutely right. It's been a long week!

I suppose ANA must consider Haneda and Narita the same point for fare construction purposes. That would suggest NRT-YVR on Air Canada may be an option for others if there's availability around their travel dates.
