Original premium fare deal was for QR J class travel, originating in Vietnam (SGN and HAN) to several destinations across the Americas, Europe, and Africa. Travel period 8/2017 - 3/2018 inclusive, RT fares in the USD 500 - 700 range (USD $0.05 base fare).

Reports have now been circulating that all held, non-purchased fares have been canceled by the airline. Some held and then purchased fares were also canceled, but several reports indicate at least some of those have been re-instated.

For more information on flying Qatar Airways, visit the FT forum: Qatar Airways | Privilege Club. This thread in that forum is especially useful: Qatar Airways Forum Dashboard.

This wikipost is intended to help us better understand if there are any trends (by route, travel date, and/or held/ticketed status) in these cancellations. In all entries, please include: outbound or inbound departure date, origin-destination, original ticket status (only *if* "Held" or "Ticketed after Hold"), and current ticket status only *if* your ticket was cancelled ("Cancelled" or "Cancelled & Reinstated").

It is looking like I would be getting to SGN in morning for my evening QR flight and don't want to hassle with visa to go out of airport for few hours. Traveling on US passport so might do online application just so I have approval if transit doesn't work out properly and am forced to go out.
I'll let you know on Saturday. I bit the bullet and did VOA, not realizing I could just get an evisa now. This was all just in case - it was like $30, not a big deal vs sitting in transit until 3:30PM if I can't get an online boarding pass.

You may be able to buy a refundable ticket somewhere to transit - but not sure if you'll be able to get a BP at the QR gate once you're on the other side.

But I'll let you know whether a BP prints out for me or not at T-24 or T-48, and I think I'll still land at SGN 30-60m before the transit desk should be staffed for QR.

I'm coming from CMB which isn't optimal flight wise, so opted for a 5.5h layover in SIN figuring that I'd rather sit in Changi/SQ lounge than SGN - though I'll still have plenty of hours to kill at SGN.

at HAN, if you don't have a visa, you'll just hang out in the transit zone until the airport staff checks you in. the check in staff actually work for the airport and not the airline at HAN. (airport uniform, not airline uniform!)

i flew a positioning flight from HKG to HAN with an evisa along with my US passport just in case, the problem is trying to convince the check-in agents/airlines that you do not need a visa if you are transiting, especially on a separate ticket. my evisa was actually going to be valid the day after my positioning flight (i changed myself to an earlier flight but HAN let me in a day earlier anyway and just adjusted how long i can be in the country for). in this case, i was almost denied boarding at the gate (i had checked in online so bypassed check in agents) but i had to inform the agents that there is a 24 hour transit rule in HAN and that no visa was necessary with a US passport, they had to check with a few people before letting me on to the flight.

if you can convince and let the check in agents know about the visa free transit area. then you should be fine. i only applied for one one-way visa. i used the same visa coming back from DOH on the return, DOH agents can't check to see if you've used the evisa already or not, and since my connection back to HKG from HAN at the end of my trip is only 3 hours, i knew i wasn't going to leave the airport so i chanced it and it worked (and this won't work if you are leaving the airport as they will know it has already been used)

i also asked the airport staff at the HAN trasnfer desk to send a Cathay agent to check me in at the trasnfer desk. it was done in a breeze and i was escort by the agent to the transfer area/security rescreen.

I wonder if it would seem strange to them for two entries so close together. But...I also have about 2 full pages left in my passport and about 4 years, so it might be worth the hassle to keep the space.
you can apply the evisa in the states. the website lets you pick the date you want to enter vietnam so that will be the effective date, therefore you can get into vietnam redad with however many visa, but only show them the one you need at immigration and i can confirm that the evisa is actually a piece of paper you print out on and 8x11 paper and they give it back to you. they only are going to stamp your passport when you get into the immigration line, the officer will ask you to go to the visa desk to verify the evisa, but they didnt even look at it and I had to line back up at the immigration with an nod of the head approval.

I have read online that Cathay Dragon is not part of the transfer desk so it may require a visa to exit & re-enter airside. I know QR will interline baggage onto a OneWorld partner, so that shouldn't be an issue.
i did this exact same thing. get to the trasnfer desk at HAN and ask for cathay agents. they'll ring up someone and meet you at the transfer desk

No online boarding passes unfortunately, requires doc check.

Thanks for the update. Did you just have the letter for visa on arrival that was good to transit or did you actually have to get the visa stamped? I have to do this twice about 3 months apart so wondering if letter is all you need, that way I don't have to apply for evisa twice or get visa on arrival app twice.

For what it's worth, I did two trips (10 days apart) and simply used the eVisa twice ($25 each). The line for VOA typically pretty long, while I was able to walk right through immigration in around 5 minutes. The eVisa took around 2 days to get approved each time that I applied.

Since I was only transiting, I bought the the VOA from a 3rd party (didn't know about evisa at the time) just to avoid having to deal with SQ escalations for transit without visa. Well worth the $34 for two pax in my opinion. And since you're not actually entering Vietnam, you can skip the stamp fee, the VOA lines (which weren't long but looked slow). But I didn't interact with anyone there - just waited in the transit area until 4:30PM. It's entirely to avoid extra hassle with the airlines.

If you're not entering Vietnam, the VOA is the cheapest way to go to avoid airline hassles - there were less good looking sites that were cheaper if you're on a budget.

The VOA wasn't stamped or used - but does come with dates filled out. The 90 day ones are more expensive. I don't know what the airline would think about you entering towards the end of the validity period. I'd probably just buy two VOAs from someone cheaper - I saw some in the $9-14 range per person. You're looking at $20-25 per person for two separate VOAs, not worth the risk IMHO.

Alternatively you can budget an hour or so to argue with whatever airline is flying you to Vietnam and show them your SGN outbound tix and hope they give you the "if you don't make it into the country you're solely responsible for costs of transportation home" agreements. But $10-20pp is worth not dealing with the stress and uncertainty of that for me.

The transit check-in for QR opens promptly at 4:30PM.

I flew last week. When I got to check on counter agent informed me "sorry your outbound ticket is refunded but return is Ok "
It took multiple calls to Doha to fix. My advice validate if your ticket is open for use before going to airport or go airport four hours before flight

What's the last time you check the itinerary?

Looks like the outbound flight from JFK-DOH on Dec 13th has a time change. It's now departing at 9:45am instead of 11am as per the original schedule.
What are our options?

Anyone know if I can get my BP from HKG? Will be routing through SGN. Understand luggage will not be an issue. I can check it all the way till the end.

Would like to do a 1:30 transit in SGN from HKG. CX to QR. I don't need a visa so am wondering if there is a transit facility where I don't need to leave airside
