Original premium fare deal was for QR J class travel, originating in Vietnam (SGN and HAN) to several destinations across the Americas, Europe, and Africa. Travel period 8/2017 - 3/2018 inclusive, RT fares in the USD 500 - 700 range (USD $0.05 base fare).

Reports have now been circulating that all held, non-purchased fares have been canceled by the airline. Some held and then purchased fares were also canceled, but several reports indicate at least some of those have been re-instated.

For more information on flying Qatar Airways, visit the FT forum: Qatar Airways | Privilege Club. This thread in that forum is especially useful: Qatar Airways Forum Dashboard.

This wikipost is intended to help us better understand if there are any trends (by route, travel date, and/or held/ticketed status) in these cancellations. In all entries, please include: outbound or inbound departure date, origin-destination, original ticket status (only *if* "Held" or "Ticketed after Hold"), and current ticket status only *if* your ticket was cancelled ("Cancelled" or "Cancelled & Reinstated").

It should be basic common knowledge on FT by now that holds are worthless when there is a mass influx of them. Airlines repeatedly just clear these because they are a real nuisance not only to the airline but also to other PAYING customers.

If it weren't for people holding one, maybe 2 possible dates, then we wouldn't see the inventory disappear nearly as quickly.

Say 1000 folks were 'booking' this in an hour. 200 pay immediately, of the 800 half hold one option the other hold two. That leaves 200 sold seats but 1200 more taken out of inventory... hidden from public view, rendering the sale 'over' early even though the sales may never materialize.

Me, I did the hold then a short time later, before they could run a batch job to cancel, I hurried up and paid. Stinks that I don't get any cooling-off period, or time to verify my positioning and return segments can line up

One way the airline could do this better is to require CC info, and do a temp authorization for the full airfare amount. I realize many FTers with a dozen credit cards and high limits would be unfazed....but at least it would intimidate a big chunk of people away from holding inventory.

Has anyone that bought the ticket straight up (without putting it on hold first) have had their ticket canceled?

Bought it last night without putting it on hold. Still says confirmed and ticketed, and even let me choose my seats.

I had the same question as ss2000. Were all ticketed itineraries that were cancelled first held? Might be useful to know for the future.

My ticket placed on hold first -- then purchased 1 hour later is still hanging in there with eticket attached when I checked manage my trip on the QR website

Question regarding the visa discussion that are saying don't roll the dice - I generally agree but... Is the risk only the airline denying boarding? I ask this because let's say I carry-on my small bag, tis there really a risk of getting "stuck" airside because, worst case scenario, I can just book a quick air Asia flight out or use points to fly somewhere immediately need be. Thoughts? I still have a PDF of my last evisa from last month so I'm just wondering

My ticket was SGN-DFW.

Edit: Seems like they charged my CC as well even though it's still "Pending".
Hmmm guess QR is starting to cancel tickets...I wonder if there is a pattern with destinations/travel date/time ticketed etc.

Can you guys report some datapoints?

fwiw I booked three rt's HAN-PHL for Sep/Nov/Jan, ticketed shortly after midnight EDT, all still alive

I have both- 2 held first, 1 straight up. All still looking good. I haven't selected seats for any of them if that makes a difference...

Yes it is coincident with golden tix promo. But how the hell they promo on all routing and almost everyday. Yes they are going to put 0 fare on SOME route on SOME date but screw up a lil.... is that I heard from QR office near me
If you refer to QR in Bangkok or anywhere in Thailand then I can tell you these people are hopeless and incompetent. I wouldn't ask them for the current time.

FYI, this was NOT a $0 base fare. It was approximately 1100 VND base fare which is about a nickel.

It was NOT a $0 fare.
