So the cycle begins!
excitement about the fare, on forums and blogs
rush of bookings
success stories by those who got in
cries of disappointment by those who missed it
Some cancellations/downgrades by the airline
heated debate whether is is an error fare or not
airline makes a stand on whether it will honor or not
cries of unfairness by those canceled or downgraded
lawsuits/charge backs or threats of lawsuits/ charge backs by those affected
discussions of repositioning/transiting by those whose tickets survive
trip reports by those who survived and flew
delayed refunds by the airline
then
next promo fare pops up
rinse and repeat.

oh I think there should be one more step in the cycle: discussions of repositioning/transiting, and some technical discussions.
and let me start that part.
Heard that you can technically do TWOV at SGN as long as you have a flight out within 24hr, but also read a few horror stories, anyone recently transit at SGN between different airlines and remained airside? really do not want to pay the massive sum for a visa useful for 2 hours.

The problem is convincing the airline taking you to Vietnam that you won't have an issue there. They simply won't let you board, since the QR ticket is a separate ticket and they won't take the risk. Best plan is to get a single entry 3 month visa, or an invitation letter, and simply not use it till the very end (you'll need it again on your return to Vietnam as part of the QR ticket).

I have 2 passports. One can get me into Vietnam for free and one with US visa Waiver. Wonder if it's ok to enter and leave Vietnam with one passport and show the other one with ESTA at checkin for US flight? I did something similar many times in other countries but not sure about regulation/law in Vietnam. Anybody has any experience? Thanks

However, I'd only recently booked a QR routing WAW-DOH-HAN-BKK-DOH-WAW in Y for my winter hols, so knowing that the deal came and went while I slept in my bed makes me feel a bit better about having made that original booking.
