If you use the 10% off code mentioned in the 5X QMiles promotion (QRTFPC2017), the fare rises even further! I suspect that the IT folks programmed the "discounts" backwards (i.e. add-ons rather than subtractions), .... perhaps through the use of a double negative

Same problem here. Both promos pushed the price up so I used no code

Also completely unsure whether the 5x points applies without using the promo code.

It looked like streaks of clouds to me at first but when I look closely, I realized it was the aurora borealis.
That's awesome. I've seen them before on IS flights from PDX-KEF. We were on the north facing side, but the lights were seen from the south facing side as we flew up northern Canada and Greenland. On an IS return flight KEF-SEA one time I saw them on the north side.

So I am booking a companion to the HBE-LAX fare I booked before this sale started. For some reason, entering in the promo "VISA" also raises the price

That's what I was saying myself: On QR's Malaysian website, you can see some very appetising Companion Fares, such as KUL-BOS for MYR9,999 and KUL-MUC for MYR6,239, but when I try to find these fares on the same routes, the prices that come out are 2-3 times higher than what they should be... Very frustrating!

As an FYI I'm seeing early June to early August CAI-BKK for $670USDpp (booking two people with the VISA promo). And seeing $1500USDpp same dates for CAI-SYD (though that's not as good a deal.

The VISA promo code doesn't apply to the lowest R fares apparently. But if you've run out of R and are now looking to fly in I, it'll knock down the price 15%. I had this happen to me on an outbound leg (don't have flexible dates, and wanted to lock in the 5X miles) just now and the promo code helped bring the price down a bit.

For the 5X miles, log into privilege club and register for the offer under My Offers. Then make sure you enter your number while booking. Of course, 5X is now off the table. You can get 4X though. Not too shabby.

Can anyone tell me how to go about actually purchasing these flights via Qatar and then crediting them to AA to accrue EQD/EQM/AA Miles? Just want to make sure I'm following the correct steps before committing. Thanks!

(Also would the VISA code apply here?)
Just book it via the Qatar website then choose your AA number as the FF beneficiary.

FWIW I created a QR account since without logging in I could not get the website to function correctly.

LAX-DOH-SIN Feb 14-21. Never been to SIN, looking forward to it!

The VISA code does discount from AMS. Got 2 x AMS - BKK for €2030 which would have have been more than €2600 without the code.

Really! What sort of question is that?

You reach 640 TPS when your brain is not working properly due to travel excitement.
This should of course be 4 x 140 TPs = 560 TPs total.
Sorry.

LAX-DOH-SIN seems to accrue 24300 base miles r/t, 24300x1.5=36450 EQM, 24300x.2=4860 EQD, and 24300x2.2=53460 RDM (as executive platinum). Can anyone confirm?
