Standby on later flights sounds dangerous. What if you cant get on?

This. I'm new to MRs (have first two next month) and airport lounge access will be very important to me, particularly on the trips with no hotel stays/several segments/long layovers.

Thanks for alerting me to their standby policy! It doesn't work *quite* how you say, but it might still be useful. You can standby for free, but only to the flight immediately prior to your booked flight. For a fee ($50 for a transcon) you can change to any earlier or later flight on the same day. So, if I book a circa $135 fare I'd need to pay a $50 change fee to have a day in BOS or NYC, but that's still much better than paying $350 to book the later flight.

SDC costs $50 + fare difference. The applicable fare difference will be enormous if you try to create a fare break in BOS.

According to this page there's no fare difference collected for SDC: http://virginamerica.custhelp.com/ap...kw/standby+fee

In practice I have been able to fly standby on later flights and on flights not immediately prior to my ticketed flight. Once at the airport, anything can happen depending on how generous the ticketing/gate agents are feeling that day. SDC to later flights is certainly not something you can count on, but just know that it does happen.

Weekends appear to be harder to find.

Here is one but its as single RT not one of the doubles ~$133:

https://www.priceline.com/m/fly/sear...ID=11554367SID

Ok, here we go, a double for Friday night on 2/3 - Sunday 2/5 evening for $162

https://goo.gl/flights/rN2m

To mix things up by changing one of the JFKs to FLL for $166 on same as above

https://goo.gl/flights/ieQF

My weekend trip went up to ~$400. Mostly Tuesday/Wednesday departures.

Thank you CDKing - How to book though ? The only one that drops into Priceline is Super Bowl Sunday and my friends already think I'm crazy.

The non priceline ones if you can first build in ITA matrix you can copy into bookwithmatrix.com and then push to priceline. The links should allow booking direct through google flights

I am amateur. I will check book with matrix. The best ones on google flights don't have a link to book. It says call airline. Ymmv

CDKing - OK so, I built the itin in ITA. Copied and pasted to bookwithmatrix or whatever that sight was. Got it to accept and build it. It gave me options for both Priceline and Alaska websites to purchase. neither one will pull it up and allow to book though. If nothing else, was good practice going through the motions and getting a little familiar with those two sites.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone else having trouble selecting seats for these flights on VX website? I get to the 4th or 5th leg and it chokes every time. Probably something to do with the number of segments I'd imagine? Maybe I should call VX.

I really wish they'd allow AS fliers with status the opportunity to upgrade to "comfort plus" or whatever they call it. Maybe it will happen Jan. 9th - but I'm not gonna count on it.

Yes. It's already been mentioned a few times in the tread. A suggestion that worked for me was to use the VX mobile app to select seats.

Don't COC say that they are required only to get you to your destination (LAX-PDX)?? Not that they are required to give you a specific routing?

Other than requesting a refund, does a passenger have recourse to insist on a specific routing?

Just wondering........(and agreeing that this is an excellent MR deal!)
I'm thinking just a refund like with ever other major change). Hopefully the schedule changes wont be too drastic and they will just automatically move to the rescheduled times. I'm trying to stick with likely same plane turns as that decreases chance of messed up itins.

If anything the next step would be the regular pay seats or exit row not considered Main Cabin Select (MCS). I don't think MCS will ever be an option for AS elites (VX elites, not sure what level, can select 24 hours out (or is it day of departure?)

The app stopped letting me access the guest section so i have not been able to select seats for more than 3 of my itins
