Same situation but on another airline. Im going to leave from the same port around the same time. Im just going to try out of curiosity.

Expedia.co.uk and AliTalia refund processed in one day... with amex. emailed expedia who provided phone number, called number, lovely lady looked into it, gave me option to cancel, said she needed to call AliTalia, during which she would call me back an hour later. a couple days later, checked account all monies there. now -900 on my credit card.

should say route originally booked was flr-cdg-jnb-auh-dus all in business. out af, return ey.
which became flr-fco-dus (az) / auh-dus (ey)

i obviously pointed out that az had done something to the tickets so that my trip was no longer going to jnb and back..

Why do you capitalise the "t" in "Alitalia"?

Would you do the same for BriTish Airways?

thought it was named after someone called Ali Talia. Meant to say it's British Air actually.

No new reports of re-route? Perhaps AZ is done with it for now and whoever has intact itineraries may be safe, especially with non-055 tickets.

Then maybe I'll be the guinea pig, if it still shows as bookable when the time comes.

Expedia called me mid December and I confirmed that I wanted to go ahead with the refund. Never got an email from them, but on checkmytrip and expedia, it showed as being cancelled. Just called Alitalia to see about the refund and they said that they hadnt received insx that the ticket was cancelled (but they had moved it to the more direct routing) and that id have to wait 30-90 days from today for a refund.

Booked with Mastercard credit card, will call them in the morning to see what they can do. Was for 1780 GBP so not a small amount.

Well. I'm just going to just ask at check in what the ticket status is. Don't think I'll fly it even if possible, especially since a full refund was issued and I have another ticket in business. Don't want to deal with az charging me for services already refunded

Is anyone who was lucky enough to be re-ticketed on alternative ticket stock, with the fare difference covered by the OTA, flying soon? Should these be considered "safe" now?

So, my update. I thought I'd let it all blow over, having initiated an Amex chargeback in late December, but I wanted to ensure decks were cleared before the QR sale tonight, so I can get replacement tickets.

Calling Expedia UK, I got the usual fob off about ticket no longer under their control, but when pushed, they called AZ and within a couple of minutes agreed to refund both the fare and booking fee, and said they would be back in my account within 10 days (we'll see...). They must now be expediting this when pushed to avoid more problems and to encourage us all to cancel.

Hope that helps anyone with tickets outstanding.

After a couple of emails back and forth with Expedia.de I finally called them and had the tickets canceled. I had two sets of tickets (about 4500 Euro total refund) which they say will be back on my card in a matter of days. They said I was welcome to call Al Italia and see if they would do something with the old tickets, to which I asked him has he seen any successful outcomes based on that. The expedia.de CSR said that no he had not but he had seen 100's of refunds and he heard that this whole fiasco was costing Al Italia millions. Either way I wanted to free up the funds for some other flights.

So this ends my journey on the Italian Job.

Was a fun ride, I don't think I have ever seen a Prem Fare have such a long discussion, I know there were a few days before Christmas when I was literally refreshing the thread every hour as I wanted to stay up to date. Can't say that about any other fare ever.

UPDATE: I did the refund request on Friday night, and the money was put back on my USA Chase Sapphire card today.

1) My case -- full refunded of my 30 Dec FLR-LIM-SVO-DUS (Kupibilet+Alitalia), but bank took taxes of conversion or cross-bound transaction (looks like alitalia made all payments(initial and refund) in RUB-s but from Rome office). Now I wrote to claims-Ru alitalia-mail about extra compensation.
1*) Moreover in all my cases (30 Dec LIM, 30 Apr BOS,SYD, 12 Aug SEZ) 10-11 Dec were holds, 16 Dec alitalia changed tickets, 19 Dec final payment (i.e. they confirm payment after reissue tickets(!));
for first one 28 Dec I asked refund, 02 Jan money came back, but with taxes of bank :-(

2) In our Russian forum somebody wrote that 057 ticket was confirmed by airfrance, i.e. they called him and said, that he cannot skip any first segments in case if he want to fly or 500 euro voucher + full refund if he dont want to fly. He is Gold status with 10(or 20)+ business segments and many claims of quality of service on board.
