Yes. You'll also earn whatever the elite mileage bonus relevant to your status is as well.

Most importantly is as an R fare you'll earn 20% EQD. So you are looking at just over 3500 in EQD for AA.

One other thing to be aware of is that QR oversells business class fairly consistently and will not hesitate to bump the lowest fare down to economy. I've only experienced this traveling on award tickets, but twice (two out of two times) on award tickets business has been oversold and I was given the option to either travel in economy or wait until the next day for business (and offered a $200 travel voucher for my trouble).

DOT IDB rules only entitle the traveler to IDB compensation if the traveler is not offered any transportation at all on the given flight. A downgrade from business to first will only entitle the traveler to a refund of the fare difference between business and economy.

Interesting. So if you are on an award ticket issued by AA and were downgraded by QR, would AA merely refund the difference between Y & J in points? And if/when you opt to fly on another day (instead of accepting the downgrade), do they also pay you for accommodation, meals and transport?

Inidentally, on which sector did you experience this overbooking?

On my last incident, it was on an IAH->DOH flight. I had already started the award ticket from SFO and they called me while I was in IAH and asked me to meet their manager at the gate. They offered $200 in travel credit and to pay for meal and accommodations for an overnight stay to leave the next day, and promised I wouldn't get bumped from the next day's flight. Fortunately, at the very end someone no-showed for a business class seat, so I ended up flying in J as originally planned.

If I wanted to take the downgrade, they offered, I think, $300 cash plus the difference in miles. (My travel wasn't essential and I wasn't interested in 15 hours in Y so I didn't even consider that part of the offer.)

The manager on duty at the time actually asked me to write to HQ at Doha because she was sick of constantly dealing with that situation. This was a few years ago though, on a UA award. There are several more reports of similar situations, although I don't know if they are happening as much now:

I'm booking this fare, but I have a backup award ticket on Etihad so I don't get stuck in Colombo (or worse, forced to fly economy!) if Qatar decides to screw me.

Quick question, does anyone know if my separately booked, non-QR, non-oneworld positioning flight to CMB is delayed, causing me to miss the QR flight, would QR put me on the next available flight? I don't mind paying a change fee, but would I have to pay the fare difference (which could be massive by then)? If so, any advice to minimize the risk/damage?

I didn't see, what is the max stopover length of time? I didn't see that listed only saw how far out one could book.

I did take advantage of the CMB-BOS deal. I am going in 2/17. I can't figure out how people calculated that the AA's EQD will be 3x (1105 USDx3). There is nothing in the AA's website in regards to the quantity of miles earned on the Qatar's own flights (not AA code-shared). I'm EP on AA and trying to do all mileage runs again next year.

It's not 3x. It's 20% of miles for EQD.

EQD -
For Business J/C/D - 25% of miles flown.
For Business R/I - 20% of miles flown.

EQM -
Any Business - 1.5 of miles flown.

RDM -

RDMs is 100% plus whatever bonus you get based on your AA status. If you are EXP I believe you should get 120% on top of the base RDMs.

I've been eyeing this for the longest time... but nothing is available over Christmas. In fact, terms specifically exclude travel during the period. Sigh.
