How to do segment runs?

Hey!

I've been searching the internet for a couple of days now, but I can't find a decent guide on how to plan segment runs. I'm seeking to maintain FB status, but I'm a few segments short. I live in Amsterdam, but don't really know how to plan a segment run.

how many segments do you need and whats the price/time range and airline? easiest way is selecting "no limit" for #of stops/extra stops on ITA or "any" for #of stops on google flights. also, filtering on Kayak by 2+ stops works well. Or, just find a cheap route with a lot of LCC's and many runs per day. might be able to find some low fares for short flights and make a bunch of runs on the weekends.

Welcome to FT marctjoefat!

Segments runs are hard from hub cities on a hub and spoke airline. You can try AMS-XXX-CDG-XXX-CDG-XXX-AMS with part of the trip on AF. Find a cheap (short) CDG turn and sandwich it into a cheap AMS-CDG trip. I suggest using one ways to find the cheapest flights you can, noting the booking codes then using ITA to bring them all together into one booking.

Also, as rolltribe suggested you can find a cheap short route, with lots of LCC's and competition and just keep flying it over and over.

Good luck!

Depends on how many you need. In Canadian dollars I think anything <$50 is a good price for a segment, but they're very rare domestically. In the US it's A BIT easier, in Colombia I find it very easy. Super sale fares on Avianca still earn me segments, so I've done that a few times, just gone to a city for a day or 1.5 days while I'm already on vacation in Colombia. Nice way to explore too.

In Europe I can't speak to the prices, but it might be tough. The cheap flights won't earn anything, you'll have to fly legacy carriers and even then I'm not sure the earning of segments. Basically It's not really easy to find a segment run, better to do is find a good fare then add segments to it via ITA.

Thanks everybody!

Yeah I've been searching on ITA, Kayak and Skyscanner but I only get non-qualifying-flights as a result (transavia, easyjet). The rest are crazy expensive. So I'm going to do as drvannostren said, gonna find a nice fare and add some nice segments.

Milwaukee Segment Run Help

I fly out of MKE. I have been EXP for 14 years but this year due to increased requirements and a slow travel year I will find myself about 9 segments short. I have been trying to find a way to get this over a two day period any time between now and end of year. Any help or suggestions how to built this would be great. Thank you!

You can do MKE-DFW-DEN-PHX-MKE (4 segs) in a day for $187.60 all-in. Decent availability in October and November including several Saturday's. Also makes a decent mileage run. Unfortunately, two trips will still leave you one segment short.
