Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

Suggestions for what to do in ...

AUH (Abu Dhabi) (Check Groupon):
Grand Mosque [wiki] [map]
Kayak the mangroves [trip advisor] [map]
Ferrari World [trip advisor] [map]
Dune bashing/camel ride [trip advisor]

Hotels:
Qsar al Sarab

CPT (Capetown):
Take cable car to top of Table Mountain
Drive the scenic drive to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope
See Robben Island prison, home to Nelson Mandela for 18 years
V&A Waterfront
Hop-on-Hop Off Bus Cape town (brings you to all scenic landscapes of Cape town (incl Camps bay) w/o hassle and security concerns

JNB (Johannesburg):
Nelson Mandela Square (JNB) / also visit Butchers steak restaurant there
Guided tour to Soweto (JNB)

For JNB/CPT:
- use uber (safe and cheap) / if you travel to Sandton(JNB): use Gautrain from Airport. / review travel advise and do's/don'ts for traveling in JNB city.
- Tons of cheap flights btw CPT and JNB. Always use booking portals like orbitz, skyscanner, etc. to find good fares (for example on Kulula, BA, SAA, Mango, etc.)

MNL (Manila):
Ask on FT (in Destinations) - There are too many islands and beaches in the Philippines to list here.
If you fancy another destination:
$120 R/T to SIN
$175 R/T to HKG or 7500 Avios
Almost all of Asia is under $200 with LCCs

I booked my flight on Vayama. Right now the flight connection doesn't work.. CDG-AUH arr 6:50a Depart AUH-ORD 3:40AM The Etihad agent said I'd have to contact booking agent to change it. I'm nervous about what Vayama will offer (like they'll say it was a mistake to begin with). I'm thinking I'll wait a few more days to see if Etihad changes on their own, like they said they would by last Monday?

It seems others have had no problem contacting Etihad even though you booked it through another website? Maybe I should try again another time.

Was able to get a booking canceled without fees, due to schedule change. I suspect that EY is eager to cancel these or at least minimize losses by moving to their own metal as mentioned before.

Curious however, does EY do weather waivers for rescheduling flights? (considering storms coming through NYC recently)

Many folks are getting into AUH on the 12th of Feb or have overlapping stays. Seeing discoross, nicoles9, bonsaisai, gemini5165+1, SiDFresh +2, DrQuack02+1, greendx+2, adam1222, linke3, and onfo +3 on the wiki and I'm sure there are others who haven't added themselves.
Will be heading to Dubai right from AUH and staying there at one of the Radissons. Would like to meetup if time permits.

I'm out of IAD on 2/12. So, on the flight and possibly on Express, I'll be guessing who Dr. Q and Adam are. Wonder if the onboard entertainment system have seat to seat chat option.

btw, got email about upgrade. Minimum bid is $1150. Seems that A and K's are taken.

Just a note on talking with Ethiad, the time of day. The last time I called they were great, but the agent said 10 minutes later the night shift would be on and they probably wouldn't have been able to figure out and make the correct changes. Plus he said there is less people to help and more incentive to get off the phone because of waiting calls.

Plus he said there is less people to help and more incentive to get off the phone because of waiting calls.
Thanks for the advice. I did call at 10:30PM CT, so that would have been 8:30AM their time. I'll try calling even later tonight and just get another agent I'm sure.

Another flyer in similar situation was able to talk to them and even get another AA flight on their itinerary on a Vayama booking so I just have to be patient. I'm not even asking for another AA flight.. hoping to just fly back the day after and spend a day in Abu.

We don't have Etihad's FF membership yet, but can anyone tell me if their family membership can bump the primary account's status with the combination of all accounts? I.E, my RT this time will be 15000 miles, so plus my wife's 15k, as a primary I will be 30k files and above their 25k threshold for Silver I believe.

If not, should we just fill in our AAdvantage number and getting AA miles, since I doubt I will fly Etihad within two years? Thanks a lot.

Definitely depends on the time of day - and maybe it's slightly different if you're not going thru the US flights pre-clearance. I went thru that on Feb. 4 for my EY101 flight (10:45AM AUH - JFK), and it probably took a good 60-90 minutes - possibly because there were other US flights departing around the same time (they kept pulling people for the Chicage & Dallas/ Ft. Worth departures from the security line since it was so long). They scrutinized the liquids (taken out in clear bags), electronics (laptops had to be able to power on, cameras out of bags), shoes off, jackets off, etc.. so definitely tedious. They do recommend 3 hrs. ahead of departure.

You should review this and other threads which explain options for crediting. What is your routing? You may not be eligible to earn any AA miles.

We are going non stop IAD-AUH. How do I find out if I'm eligible for AA miles? It reads unclear on AA's site.

Thanks

You're only eligible if it's coded as an AA flight. I doubt this is.

It's pretty pricy, 900 AED for one person. Is it worth it?

1000% worth it, if you are into that type of thing.

It is unlike anything you have seen. I have been to it before, and had a blast
