Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Bottom line: there are two things going on here:
1. DFW-AUH flights are being modified where the schedule change causes problems. These itineraries are being moved to days where Etihad actually operates the flights. This has NOTHING to do with the mistake fare, they simply made a schedule change and are trying to accommodate people.
2. US-XXX-AUH flights are being changed to US-AUH flights where possible. This is very likely Etihad trying to recoup costs and remove partners from the equation (less money to pay out). With these changes you will likely not have a change of travel date, just a loss of a connection. And it sounds like if you plead your case Etihad may honor your request to stay on your original routing. This is on a case by case basis.

Got an email from Orbitz this morning for changes to an itinerary in November, 2015. JFK-AUH-JNB. They changed my return leg from AUH-JFK to a day earlier but didn't move my JNB-AUH leg up. (You see how that wouldn't work

I just got a change. Leaving JNB 25 minutes earlier (took me a while to find this--why can't they highlight it in the email???) so I'm up to ~4 hours in AUH now. Unfortunately, still not a long enough layover in Abu Dhabi to do anything. Maybe I'll see if we can get an airport tour...
My 12 hour daytime outbound CDG layover (which we want-we tour cities this way every trip) is still there...Also happy to get the AAdvantage miles on my outbound JFK-CDG-AUH-JNB...

Just got an email from Etihad (I booked via Expedia) regarding flight changes on JFK-MAN-AUH and return, was terrified I would be put onto the nonstop. Instead just minor, 15 changes to the legs from/to MAN.

So I did get email today from Etihad about a change, but it is not from connecting to nonstop. This is a schedule change by less than 30 minutes which reduces the amount of time spent at MAN (Manchester, UK) on the way to Abu Dhabi.
90 minutes should be adequate at MAN as apparently connecting passengers from USA to non-UK destinations do not need to clear through customs / immigration.

If you got switched from US-XXX-AUH to US-AUH then you can probably complain about the long flight and get a refund.
If there's a small flight schedule change (15-30 minutes), may not be able to get a refund. In theory if you had an earlier/later connecting non-EY flights, even a small change can affect minimum connection time (MCT) but that's airport-dependent.
