DL First MR with Same Day Return
 

the flight shows as a round trip from A>B (which includes return B>A) but when I leave initially in the morning, am I check in for the entire trip or must I check in again at the "destination" before coming back to "originating" airport?

Most times, I have been able to check in for the outbound trip, and then 24 hours prior to the inbound trip, I rechecked in the outbound trip then it gave me the option of checking in for the inbound.

However, on some occasions, I had to go to the gate for the inbound check in.

I usually check in for the outbound at about 24 hours before departure, then the inbound 24 hours before it's departure. The only issue is that Delta.com "MyTrip's" doesn't show the link for the inbound, so I can only check in for the return by clicking on the link found in the email that I get saying it's time to check in.

Just click the "Check In" link on the delta.com front page. It let's you specify the From airport and use the airport where you are making the turn as the from airport. You'll have to be within 24 hours of departure though.

I do this same-day stuff a lot as a Delta flyer. I have the Delta Iphone app, which is really handy. Whether on my home PC or the Iphone app, I never can seem to check in for the last segment of my return, or all of my return, until I complete the outbound segments. Even if all segments are within the 24 hours.

Gate agent or kiosk can print you return boarding passes at the destination, so this is not a problem.

There should be automated kiosks at SLC somewhere inside security I would think. Or I can just use the Delta app or my computer in the Sky Club since I have a short layover at the "destination". Delta.com doesn't seem to know truly how to deal with a same day return, but I assume it will work once the final leg of outbound completes.

Again, click the "CHECK IN" link on the front-page of www.delta.com (between FLIGHT STATUS and VACATIONS) fill in your conf number and SLC as the FROM AIRPORT (assuming that's your turn point). You should be able to check-in for the return segments before you depart on your MR using that trick.

I've never noticed that! Sometimes you search everywhere and can't find what you are looking for. I'm doing a same day return tomorrow. I'll try it. Thanks, LBJ
