[FARE GONE] LAN: JFK-IGU $451. 3.31 cpm RT

So pretty new to all of this but searched on kayak for Oct 8-13 and found JFK-LIM-GRU-IGU-GRU-SCL-JFK.

I apologize in advance if I calculated the cpm wrong or for not knowing the fare rules to see if this gets full miles.

If this isn't the right spot, please move the post.

$440.27 ~3.48cpm

Clicking "Fare Rules" says it's a V FARE BASIS. Looks like V is 100% on AA. 100% on international, 50% on domestic Brazil flights on AA. TAM earning on AA. LAN earning on AA.

ragnar1 May 31, 2014 7:59 am

also available in october via MIA, either X in SCL or SCL-GRU for $424-$430 depending on dates

maskedmesothorium May 31, 2014 8:02 am

I'm seeing $471 from LAX for the same dates. LAX-LIM-IGU if you want to avoid insane connections at 4 cpm, but routing through GRU is possible. Kayak wants to book through cheapoair.com :/

hogo74 May 31, 2014 8:20 am

For 10/2 JFK-LIM-SCL-GRU-IGU, 10/6 IGU-GRU-SCL-LIM-JFK all on LAN codes flights, expedia shows "O" for the JFK-LIM and LIM-SCL legs, "H" for the SCL-GRU legs, and "Y" for the GRU-IGU legs, for $450 a.i., though a brutal 38 hr trip on the way back. If the booking classes displayed on expedia are correct, only the LIM-SCL legs would earn less than 100% in AA according to the AA LAN earnings table, but I have no first hand experience.

danielm May 31, 2014 8:41 am

What I am seeing on Expedia is:

LA: JFK-LIM - O = 100%, 1.0
JJ: LIM - IGU - B = 100%, 1.0
LA: IGU - GRU - Y = 100%, 1.0
LA: GRU - SCL - H = 100%, 1.0
LA: SCL - JFK - O = 100%, 1.0

= 12665 miles @ 440, 3cpm

But someone correct me if I've calculated those wrong!

Yeah anyone been able to break the trip out a little bit with two or three day layovers?

Can't find any way to make this economical given the astronomical charge for a Brazilian visa for US Citizens

How much is it now? $150ish? And there's some nuisance attached to getting it.

For a vacation, the problem would be that the falls are better on the Argentine side. And that would be ANOTHER $150ish.

If anyone says visa fees "don't matter," they haven't travelled to South America lately.

This has been around for a bit, I can't find it now but it has been here elsewhere and on the flight deal.

Let us not derail another thread about visa fees. The fees are charged at that level because that is what the USA charges Brazilians and Argentines to even apply for an interview for a visa, with far less of a chance of approval. Write to your congresspeople and senators to add Brazil and Argentina to the visa waiver program, and those fees will lessen significantly, if not disappear. See Chile.

And actually, each is $160, but are valid for ten years generally. And let this be the last post concerning that, we can get all of the facts out there :).

It may be time for another trip to South America.....

Thanks, OP!!

If anyone finds a way to work in stopovers, let us know!

Was holding back on posting this till I got everything sorted out! ... booking family members on the very itinerary.

Appears to be available through EOS. With visa, you can route through SCL and LIM for < 5 cpm. Thats not the worst thing ever. Also for those of you who are OW Emeralds, I've been upgraded from Y on all non-full J flights I've taken with LATAM.

There's also the PUQ deal, stopping 3x in LIM,SCL,and PMC which gets around 5 CPM, to Chile which has no reciprocity fee.

FlightWhite May 31, 2014 9:34 am

Important to try and route your flights

LA - TAM -TAM -LA.

Those flights in S.A. are not likely to get more than .25 EQM if they are LAN operated, but TAM operated books into B which earns 100%.

Contrary, also, to TFD's reports, you can book this away from Cheapoair, which I would advise. I booked on COA and didn't have a ticket number within 6 hours, went to expedia and got one instantly... thanks 24 hour cancellation!

Fare rules anyone? Cannot reproduce the fare on ITA :(
