There are two categories of US cities involved, DL hubs and other, generally secondary, airports.
From some DL Hubs, UA P fares are valid to a much wider range of cities in Europe:
SLC/MSP/DTW/ATL/CVG/MEM-AMS/MXP/FCO/CDG/MLA/VCE/TRN/FLR/NAP/PMO/CTA/BUD/PRG/CPH/IST/WAW/ARN/OSL/KRK/PRG/TLL/RIX/etc
(but not JFK nor LAX?)

Other airports are valid to a smaller set of cities in Europe:
BOS/SJC/SMF/MOD/BWI/BUR/ONT/SNA/PSP/HNL/SEA/PDX/AUS/PIT/TUS/TPA/ALB/etc/etc-AMS/MXP/FCO/CDG/MLA/VCE/TRN/FLR/NAP/PMO/CTA/etc

Most UA hubs don't have the fare filed (not SFO for sure), but apparently EWR has at least EWR-VCE/NCE (but not EWR-MXP/PMO/FCO/CDG)

Some destinations in Europe have a slightly higher base fare:
MRS/LYS

(please add more cities to either origin or destination side that are valid)

Be careful in your airline selection - there are PQM/RDM implications to this. For example, for the UA program, UA P earns 150% PQM/RDM, LH P earns 100% PQM/RDM, and it appears that OS P earns nothing.
Similarly it looks like UA P class credited to Aegean (A3) earns nothing. Visit this United webpage then click on the Star Alliance partner to determine mileage earnings.

A saw an earlier post regarding Fare Lock on United. I've got several of these locked for 7 days while I figure things out. These are the times that the $10.99 fee is worth it to me. The only catch is there can't be any non-UA operated flights in the trip to qualify for a fare lock. I fly to NAP quite a bit but I'm going to FCO so I can use the United flights the whole way and have a week to figure out which flights I actually want.

it may be married segments issue related to your departure airport? There is tons of 747-8 availability ex-hpn to cdg, vce and others. I just worked on a Jul 10-15 itin hpn-ord-vce with availability on it.

748, unless you like angle flat; i don't think LH is refurbing their 380s yet? that being said, if you're traveling +1 the J lie flat is good, if not it seems really tight if you need to get up and swing over someone.

Stay clear of LH 380 business class (non-lie flat) Great reviews on LH 748 lie flat

Anyone know if booking through Orbitz using a Chase Explorer card (through UR portal) will get coded as a United purchase (and therefore receive the 2x miles? Or does it make mores sense to purchase directly through United to get 2x vs Chase Sapphire via UR/Orbitz?

I was having issues getting the 747-8 on ORD-FRA when trying to maximize my connection time. It gets in at 7:15am, so there aren't nonstops to too many places early enough the next day to not break the 24 hour rule. There is, however, a FRA-MUC flight at 7:15am (daily I assume), so I chose that in order to make my 24 hour layover in FRA work.

Thanks for the tip. I was on the A380 both ways but changed to 747-8 for the outbound. Too bad there are no VPS-ORD flights, so I still have to connect through Houston with a CRJ on VPS-IAH.

SNA and SAN seem to have the most availability. In addition to ONT some itineraries are available beginning in BUR and PSP.

now if delta or AA would fight back out of UA's hubs/semi hubs at LAX and SFO, I'd by the happiest person on earth.

As a current UA 1K, i don't want to give UA any more money :P.
