Making a Trip Extra Long
I'm trying to make a booking for Chicago-San Francisco on 5/14. I copied the fare rules. I'd like to make a stop in Washington Dulles to increase the amount of miles I will earn, and K fares are available for ORD-IAD and IAD-SFO, however, I can't get it to price on UA.com. No where in the fare rules does it say you can't transfer at IAD. Is there some explanation?

But often, it is just easier to use ITA and have it generate multiple segments (i.e. One Way, From: "ORD::UA UA" To:"SFO"). Plugging in your example date, it suggested: ORD-LAX-SFO for 12.8% more miles, or ORD-SEA-SFO for 30.0% more. I plug the same search criteria into Hipmunk, which then generates a link to United. If you know the exact flight numbers from ITA, you can also do that--which often works better anyway (i.e. From: "ORD::UA635 SEA UA1281" To:"SFO"). Then just click the "Book on United" button and it transfers the exact itinerary. |
