I really want to do this. I don't think my wife will be too impressed if I do. The only problem is finding a good deal to GIG out of ABZ, EDI or GLA. If I can upgrade to J for 3800 USD I will have todo a lot of soul searching. My heart is screaming yes, my brain is hesitant.

To prevent clots or DVT (deep vein thrombosis) it is imperative to stay well hydrated with lots of water, not alcohol, and move your legs frequently. Drinking lots of water will require more trips to the rest room which will help you to get up and move around decreasing the risk of clots. If anyone actually makes this trip I would like to read a trip report.
A more manageable MR would be be SFO or LAX JFK NRT SIN NRT JFK LAX or SFO which would give about 25,000 MQM in 72 hrs. Happy Travels! Get your Flu shot! Cheers!

Having just completed four long haul segments in WT, I found that other than the curry main courses, it is quite bearable. With access to the First Class sections of the Gallery lounges, I think I could take on this challenging itinerary. The main drawback is having to get a Brazilian visa!

It's possible to do better just by taking a quick look at fare construction.
It is a RIO-LON followed by a LON-LAX followed by a LAX-JNB fare.
MPM=6924 for the first fare, 6544 for the second, and routing rules for the third.
LAX-LON-JNB
LAX(AA/BA)-DFW/CHI/MIA-LON-JNB (and this one is not only preferable due to more mileage, if you are EXP you have a chance also to sit in domestic F.)
500 mile minimums would also change the game a bit (i.e. RIO-LON-BOS-WAS-NYC-SFO-LAX.)
