Can you just fly into the US, and turn around in 2-3 hours, fly back to London with the same aircraft? Don't you have to go through immigration in the US and then recheck in etc. Will this give you enough time?

Is the +50k avios correct for the whole itinerary? I had thought that each long-haul flight cost 12,500 avios to upgrade (i.e. 100k for all 8 segments) ---- but would love to be told that I was wrong...
