I saw this 10 minutes after it posted, the world was mine for a direct flights with VIPs available for both outbound and return on the direct flights from NYC. Plenty of availability as well. Then I told the wife and she told me I was crazy and she will not allow it since we're saving up for our house down payment....

I should've probably just bought a 1 adult one way- I hear the houses and spouses are cheaper down there...

you're wrong-the housing market is booming in Rio.. the Rio market has also one of the most expensive hotel markets in the world! If you meant living in a favela, then pls ignore my response

Thank you again, OP!

I booked over Memorial Day weekend, going via JFK both ways and the upgrades cleared even though expertflyer hadn't shown any upgrade availability for the return.

I don't think GIG is a route with a huge amount of paid J traffic. Also, we are all going during something of a shoulder/low season (after Carnival but before the North American summer).

But there is still tons of fares out there for mid-week travel so I think its just everybody is on different flights.

How is business class in the 767? For this fare, I guess who cares!

I've flown it but only domestically, so no international service or anything like that. Supposedly 763 J service (being the highest available class on the plane) is a shade better than 772 J. Seat/bed (angled lie-flat) is very similar from my recollection, other than the 767 being 2-2-2 (good if you want those middles with nobody climbing over you or not having to climb over anyone) whereas the 772 is 2-3-2. I took a window seat for my flights (I'm in the small minority of FTers who prefer a window seat).

My upgrade cleared for the return (GIG-MIA), but I'm waitlisted on the outbound (MIA-GIG).

It's pretty average. They just spiced it up with new amenities and service, but it's lipstick on a pig. Lie flat seats are king now.

You'll get a tablet. That's nice. And maybe a full night of sleep given the duration of the flight. But you wont have anything to write home about.

For example? From NYC? Lowest I saw was close to 800.

Thanks, OP!

Making this a spring break trip with my daughter! Just wish the hotels were less expensive than the airfare or that I had not blown through my Marriott Points!
