Longest Single Day mileage run in US?

Always traveled but Saturday did my first pure "mileage run" on United. BWI-EWR-SAN-SFO-BWI starting at 0530 and ending at 2300. 5498 flight miles without 500 mile minimums (5882 with 500 mile mins). Considering the connection in Newark was the only connection that didn't require instant re-boarding I'm curious of other flyertalk recent max same day mileage runs.

Highlights of the trip were a beautiful sunrise at Newark and seeing the missile launch out of Vandenburg. Hard part was trying to explain to others that you started in Baltimore and were ending in Baltimore on the same day. People were intrigued but didn't know how to process it. Personally not sure if it was crazy or not but wanted to see the experience.

I think with 500 mile minimums same day trips can be higher but without those this has to be near the max, especially out of the DC area. Thoughts from others?

i think one could do 3 transcon flights w/i 24 hrs, starting w/a 12:30 am red eye for ~7500 bis...but maybe not....

however, starting w/the red eye & a trans con back, you could get north of 6k i would think....i'll look at it...

congrats on your run....

The BOS-ANC run that was posted recently is gonna be hell - I'm in for one that leaves at 8:40 am gets into ANC at 7 pm and turns in 1.5 hrs to get back to Boston at noon the next day - 9700+ miles in 28 hours.

I might even add a run back to SFO or PDX leaving hours after landing for 16K in a weekend all in the US.

Sorry about that .

I have 6500+ miles BIS upcoming this weekend within 30 hours maybe, including 7 hours in PDX. Then I have almost 6900 miles BIS in 24 hours the following weekend, with flights I've already taken added, it will put me just over 25k BIS already in the first 6-7 weeks of 2013. At least I have the following two weekends off from flying .

I agree with red eyes you can make more miles. I was curious on the pure same day run from and to the same destination. :-)

Enjoy your trip gfb! I was a 2 hour drive from BWI so that added to my trip and added to my tiredness. Fortunately I had another flyertalk member join me that made the trip much more bearable. After landing at the end of a very long day we hit the Maryland Live casino for dinner and a little gambling where unfortunately we didn't hit it big!

Thank goodness for snow days. I don't get on here often, but... Wow!! Such great MR ideas.
Let me get this straight...
Straight miles - with no bonuses.
One calendar day - from midnight to midnight.
Beginning and ending city has to be the same.
Flying within the US - I'm guessing that means states only. No territories.
...so... miles per number of total hours from take off to landing? ...and then there's CPM.
Anyone know of cities that have red-eyes that start right after midnight?

May I ask how was the hard product if seated in Y? I was about to do an MR/short trip last week on the same route but had other plans came up hence did not make it. Still considering the possibility in Feb. Thanks!

I once did a PHX-JFK-LAS-PHX-SEA-PHX run, all within 24 hours. The longest I was anywhere was LAS, for maybe an hour. I did have time for an Ivar's chowder while at SEA (took it on the plane with me)

And I was upgraded to F for the entire trip ^

SFO-JFK-SJU-JFK-SFO can be done in about 25-26 hours for 8,367 flown miles.

I did NYC-IAH-HNL-IAH-NYC, then spent the nite in NYC, then did it again the next day.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. 20,000+ miles in about 80 hours. about half in F and half in Y.

(or 10,300 miles in about 26 hours)

These both may have exceeded 24 hours (though I did them both with nothing more than an hour layover anywhere), but in 2010, I did a pair of December mileage runs to keep 1K status. One was ORD-ATL-IAD-JFK-LAX-SEA-ORD and the other (if I recall correctly) was ORD-IAD-SFO-LAX-DEN-SEA-ORD. I was very happy to hit all (PMUA) six hubs in one MR.

SJU-MIA-LAX-KOA. Left at 6:00 AM Puerto Rico time, arrived 10 PM Hawaii time. Unfortunate 3-hour layover in LAX. nearly 6k miles. I guess it could be extended by flying onward to GUM.

(Of course ignoring the return to the same city in the same day...)
