Almost 18 hours in GRU going down 8 PM to 2:55 PM the next day and almost 14 hours in GIG on the way back 9 AM to 11 PM...

I've seen the connecting in SCL flights (to EZE) on Matrix but can't get it to price, anyone having luck?

Huge thanks to the original poster. While, I dread the 8-hour layover on the return flight, I'm psyched to be able to visit friends in Buenos Aires for less than $400 USD, although this means I finally lost my visa-fee-avoidance game with Cristina.

ok, final answer. rebooked (again!) so i'm at least getting some UA miles, and this time going to GIG instead of GRU.

Priceline: 3/2 LAX-LIM-GRU-SCL (LA, JJ, JJ), 3/6 SCL-GIG (LA), 3/9 GIG-GRU-ORD-LAX (JJ, UA, AA) (i tried to get ORD-LAX on UA but couldn't make it come up)

$409.36

EDIT: according to aa.com and .bomb, LIM-GRU-SCL booked in JJ V, which is 100% RDM/EQM on UA, but GIG-GRU is U, which is zip.

Also, LAX-LIM is LA metal but booked in what appears to be JJ L. if JJ L = LA L, it's 100% on AA. doubt it and not going to hold my breath, though.

I was waiting for someone to say they used FlexPerks ... 20K for up to $400, this is a perfect use for them.

Where is your layover? If it's in EZE, you can leave the airport on a 24-hour "free pass" if you have an onward ticket <24 hours later. If it's in GIG/GRU, you'll need a visa.

Or is the final destination EZE and the layover GRU? Because that makes more sense. People are going everywhere -- GRU, GIG, EZE, LIM, SCL.

What OTAs are working best? I've found some stuff on ITA that I'd like to try and ticket (nearly 24 hour connections in GRU, etc), but I'm having no luck with anything other than vanilla trips LGA-EZE on PL).

Any chance that I've totally missed any SFO action? I saw some stuff on LAX up-thread, but it was for SCL. I'd prefer EZE, although beggers can't be choosers

I used my CitiBank ThankYou points for the flight, so I actually paid $0. Does that count?

Just booked MIA-LIM-GRU-EZE in June for $250.22. What kind of miles can I earn on this flight if any? It says that the first two legs are operated by LANPERU FOR LAN AIRLINES. Thanks

Awesome!! Thank you. And you can use Pomo Code "CPNSEVEN20" for an additional $16 off. My LGA-IAD-GRU-EZE roundtrip was only $316/ ^

Just to add data points, if needed... the LAX-LIM flights booked into L, and the remaining flights booked into V. According to United, both of these fares earn 100% mileage. Very pleased about that.

Your LAX-LIM flight is on LAN metal which will not earn UA miles. Any subsequent flights on LAN metal won't earn UA miles either.

It gets more complicated, but a good rule to follow is:
For *A, the METAL matters. You want JJ metal or UA metal.
For OW, the CODE matters. You want LAN code for AA miles. Not happening with this deal, everything is on JJ code.

Thus, JJ code and LAN metal means you can only earn in LANPASS or TAM Fidelidade. If LATAM finalizes and joins OW before your trip, you can earn AA miles.

US Bank had a 33150 promo for the Olympics, and with spending requirements it was 40K. For everything UP TO $400, it's 20K points to redeem. For $400.01 to $600, it's 30K. This is the perfect ticket to use it on, something in the $380+ range, 1.9cpp is close to the 2cpp optimal value (before taking into account the signup bonus ).

Don't forget you also get a $25 credit for anything on the plane with FlexPerks redemptions, buy something on the domestic leg if you have one.

I'm able to pull up the itinerary on United's website and the GRU-SCL-GRU legs are in W fare class TAM, and it doesn't look like those are mileage earning. Oh well, $473/14,272 miles = 3.3 cpm during spring break, so I'm still happy. :-)
booked exact same routing for next October, thanks staeiou!
