a. IAD-AMS-CPT-AMS-IAD ----- depart IAD on Jan 28th, return to IAD on Jan 30,
and
2. IAD-AMS-CPT-AMS-IAD ----- depart on Feb 1, return to IAD on Feb 3.
I am staying at a hotel near IAD for 2 nights ... Jan 30th and 31st.
I am not staying in CPT.
A quick search on http://matrix.itasoftware.com/search.htm ... using a 7 day stay shows some dates in Jan'12 and Feb'12 at the same airfare $753 per person RT.

I had to go through the booking process several times before it let the fares all pass through with the dates I wanted. First shot, i thought I was going to get to book a B fare for the $780 price...then on the confirmation page it switched me to a higher price. Next go around it didn't give me the same flights. I've never used the ITA software before but I'll be practicing on that again soon.

I'm in for a short vacation: JFK-IAD-AMS-CPT-JNB-AMS-JFK Feb.8-13 booked on DL.bomb showing 20380 mi for $791 ai = 3.9c/mi
.. saw friday flights ex-JFK with an overnight in AMS on outbound leg
.. two nights in CPT seem more attractive to me than two nights at IAD ..

Appears to be a good value out of other airports also.
TUL -> CPT
22,000 miles for $1100
...how to nearly earn silver in one trip and one very long weekend.

KLM 777
Although I do not hate KLM, they do squeeze 10 across seating on their 777s as opposed to 9 across on most other airlines.
My error. These are 777-200s which are 9 across. Its KLM's 777-300s that are 10seats across.

"With the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express, the rewards keep coming. In fact, just for renewing your Card each year, you'll receive an exclusive, money-saving SkyMiles Companion Certificate—good for one eligible round-trip flight."
Buy one get one free perhaps? But the above mentioned companion certificate is domestic and not international to the best of my knowledge.

I'm jumping in on this and making a vacation in CPT in late January when, I hope, it is nice and cold here. It's a very reasonable price - if you do the same itinerary and stop in AMS versus continuing on to CPT the price more than doubles!

Yes, on arrival ... one needs to transit through to the departure area to get on board the departing flight.
