Even Costco won't get you there. It'd be at most a 10% savings. You'd have to use other coupons, Entertainment Book, and others you find on FT or the net.

First of all, LGA is LaGuardia, NYC, not London Gatwick (LGW).

Secondly, right now, many airlines have a base fare of $19 NYC-FRA (plus fees)

SFO-ZRH RT was $457 ai last week

Thought I'd contribute my MR accounting for the month, all ex-ORD, mostly same day trips. My fav is 1/25 LAX trip, which I booked after the others, for $79 each way. Now, I already had the first two flights booked before either of the promotions were announced, so the SAN flight I booked non-stop (instead of routing it through LAX) and the SFO flight wasn't eligible for TEQM since with the ORD/DFW->LAX/SFO promo, registration is required prior to ticketing. Additionally, I had Costco giftcards when booking all but the first two as well. So, those two skew my $/EQM for the month. On average, I'm completing the month on roughly $0.02/cpeqm.

Someone in another thread posted that the SFO based FAs are referring to January as the month of the Mileage Nerd. I have run into MRers everywhere - in fact, I'm posting this from a ORD->SFO flight, and ran to the gate with two others coming off a LAX-ORD run that was late getting in. I always think it's funny when the FAs include gate information for west coast cities when coming into Chicago from the west coast. It so far has been a neat experience - I've had the pleasure of meeting some interesting and nice people, and hope to meet more. A little sorry (or really, not that sorry) that I won't be able to run into all you AA MRers again until 2014, when I'll need to get serious about this again.

Do you have an expectation of enough business travel in 2013 or do you plan to start from scratch to requalify?

I am guessing if I manage to get to EXP, I'll work to keep it rather than regularly sit in the back in an effort to attain that status again.

Yes, that's what most EXPs probably feel. That's why it's easier to fly 100k to maintain status as opposed to earn status.

No, my goal would be to requalify in 2013 - I do probably on average ORD->SFO/LAX/SAN twice a month now, which would get me pretty close. If they run again that ORD->West Coast DEQM promo they have a few times now, it'll be easy. If for some reason I didn't, it wouldn't be until 2014 that I would have to run through this same craziness I've been so far enjoying. :-)
