(Fare Gone) SA: JFK-JNB $700 a/i - 4.4cpm (SA/CO)//6.3cpm (UA)

DansDeals.com:

Expedia New Zealand Linky

This is only pricing out on the site above, which leads to me believe that it’s probably a pricing mistake, so grab it quick if you want to go!
Total is $930 New Zealand dollars which comes out to just $699 US Dollars!
This seems to work for tons of dates in January and February. If you can find it in other months please post a comment!
Sample dates for JFK-JNB
01/12/11-01/19/11.
02/07/11-02/14/11.
02/15/11-02/22/11.
That's 15,942 miles. CO gets 100% EQM; UA gets 70% EQM, which equals 11,159 EQMs. US gets 50%.

Update: Works for IAD as well. When AndrewT84 mentioned CPT works as well, I checked and there is the same (or noted +$) base fare to LAD, LVI, DKR, LLW, PLZ, ELS, VFA, HRE, BLZ (+$50), LUN (+$50), DAR (+$120), NBO (+$120), EBB (+$120). I've tested a few random ones and they work on Expedia.co.nz for a slight additional.

If it's the GLOBAL fare basis, Expedia.nz must be pricing without the YR fuel surcharges:

was gonna post but beaten to it! nice find OP!

gosha83 Dec 14, 2010 9:31 am

That's an unreal price. I remember seeing something in the $800-900 range a couple of years ago, but otherwise, the cheapest SA has priced out was $1,200 in the off-season.

Forgive my ignorance. So, what's the catch in booking through Expedia NZ? I found a $800 +/- flight BOS-CPT. Of course, I can't replicate it now

$839 US BOS-VFA (Victoria Falls) 2/14/-24 sample dates . Mix of airlines.

Foreign transaction fee on your credit card. Use your Chase BA Visa or Schwab Visa (I think it's FIA Visa Signature now) to skip the foreign transaction fee. Otherwise, shouldn't make a difference.

Basically Expedia.co.nz is (apparently) improperly pricing this sans fuel surcharge.

YYZC2 Dec 14, 2010 9:55 am

Earns 50% with Aeroplan. I'm out. Would have been an uphill battle with the wife anyhow.

p.s. - Are referral links OK TOS-wise? Just curious.

iloveipods Dec 14, 2010 10:00 am

does expedia nz also have a 24 hour cancellation policy?

AndrewT84 Dec 14, 2010 10:01 am

Looks like Cape Town (CPT) is available also for a few dollars more

Now that you mention it, same (or noted +$) base fare to LAD, LVI, DKR, LLW, PLZ, ELS, VFA, HRE, BLZ (+$50), LUN (+$50), DAR (+$120), NBO (+$120), EBB (+$120). I've tested a few random ones and they work on Expedia.co.nz for a slight additional.

Some of those add significant mileage--NBO adds 3612, LLW adds 1822.

I've wondered that myself. This referral link is not mine, it's DansDeals, but I think he deserves the $$/credit for bringing this deal to light.

Did you find this out? I searched high and low on the site but don't see one mentioned.

Also, has anyone pulled the trigger yet? I think I'm gonna JFK-CPT 02/18 to 02/21

Anybody get it to work for any destinations outside of South Africa (i.e. Accra/Nairobi)?
