IAD-MAD Spanair/Aer Lingus/United Codeshare, $380 ai, mileage credit?

I saw some $380 roundtrips IAD-MAD, various dates in December and onward. Operated by Aer Lingus for United, but the flights are coded as Spanair.

What would the mileage earning rules be on these flights? UA.com says mileage applied to United-marketed Aer Lingus flights, but these are coded as Spanair.

For Star Alliance mileage earning is based on operating carrier, i.e. United in this case. You'll have no problem earning UA miles (or CO/US/...)

Never mind, checked again on .bomb and it is AI Ltd. So, probably no mileage earned.

shouldn't this be in the active MR forum? This is a good MR op for those still trying to make status by the end of the year.

Unbookable fare, unfortunately. I tried a few dates - if anyone finds a pair that works please post!

Apparently this is the only Aer Lingua flight that earns United miles (100%)...they have some sort of contract because UA doesn't actually want to fly the route.

Right. And even though the operating carrier is Aer Lingus, United website says that for this flight, you get full mileage credit, even elite RDM bonuses. For all intents and purposes, it is considered a United flight, as long as it's marketed as a United flight, according to United.com.

So if Orbitz or whatever says it's a Spanair flight number, operated by United, does that mean it's marketed as United?

United considers this a United flight, you can even use upgrades as any other United flight. I'm not sure how the rest of the *A partners view this.
