EDIT: Can confirm free date change. Was able to change May 4 LAX-EWR to May 2 LAX-ORD-EWR for $10.70 (the cost of the fare change, only). Done online, after ticketing.
EDIT: Free date change appears to only be for one segment at a time. That is, when I try to change both at once, I incur $50 fee, but when I try 1 at a time, date changes are FREE. Have not yet tried to do this twice (i.e. free via 2x1 sector change).

EDIT: Can once again confirm both sectors at once free date changes. Just have to find availability.
Was the $10.70 a fare change or the extra segment tax

These fares seem to be getting snapped up by elites, cause the exit rows are full and first is about half full, 2 weeks before departure. So, I'm choosing connecting flights to increase my likelihood of getting upgraded. These are great MRs!!!

I have it on hold am thinking of combining this with an AA Status Challenge to Gold, as an H fare would earn you the 5K EQM.

Right??

Since this is an active fare, there's an existing thread in the Mileage Run Deals Forum:

This is the lowest price in months.

This nonstop fare is even less than aggressive sale fares
in recent weeks, and more than 50% OFF typical prices on
this route.

Travel nearly every day of the week through April 7.

New York City-Los Angeles ... $179

This is an unadvertised fare and could sell out quickly.
Funny thats how they put it

Right??
LAX-EWR nonstop is a bit less than 2500 miles. So you would need to put in a connection through DFW or something like that (not ORD) to get to the requisite 5k.

You are right, in that H fares are good for challenges in that they earn 1.00 EQPOINTS.

Please see the challenge sticky in the AA forum, and remember AA challenges are based on EQPoints, not EQMiles.

But yes, this would be a good fare for an AA challenge because of the full EQP earned. EWR-LAX and EWR-ORD-LAX won't be enough, but EWR-DFW-LAX x2 is a nice way to get AA PLAT for $600 (plus 10K miles earned for flying).

Or you can pay a little more, still get Plat through the challenge, and spend a week in SE Asia like I did last year (^^^ NYC-BKK/SIN/HAN promo fares!)
