My wife thought I was nuts when I told her I wanted to book SFO-SYD-SFO ($478 ai) in the spring during DEQM to make sure I got 1K for the year. Then she saw the refund on the credit card annual fee and saw a little more to my logic. A couple of weeks ago, I was able to book her and my son on a couple of open-jaw saver awards four days out for college visits where there was only NY availability (no XY). Cost of each ticket would have been nearly $1000. To top it off, I was able to change the return from CLE-ORD-SFO to a CO nonstop CLE-SFO without any fees. Now she gets it ;)
