Quick ITA month-long search ex-SFO:

UA LXRHKG = outbound by 30 Apr, 6 day min, $599. Add LAX seg one direction, $606. Purch by 27 Mar.

NW KXSA49 = outbound by 1 May, Sat nt stay, $599. No stopovers. Add PDX-NRT, $613-$618. SFO<->PDX on AS. Purch by 24 Mar.

NW SFO-SEA/PDX-NRT-HKG-NRT-HNL-SEA-SFO, $624. :)

Tempting.

Make it cheaper!

This fare appears to be combinable with the lax-phx US airways trick, discussed in
http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=785896

See post $#99 for an example. This brings the total cost to around $525 A/I

It'd be nice if that trick worked. Saving $25 isn't worth having to make it home from PHX though. And folks using NW certs, ECVs and/or the $50 Paypal rebate wouldn't want to book on PL. YMMV.

I attempted (once) to get the HNL seg itin priced out, but it came up as $3k+.

I think the idea with the lax-phx segment is that you don't actually take it :) That works fine if your not checking baggage. Most people seem to have considered this leg a through-away.

I actually took this leg, and I am glad I did. got a $400 voucher and an overnight due to a equiptment delay induced misconnect.

$525 is a great fare to HKG. 29K RDMs from LAX works out to less than 2 cents per mile.

Unfortunately this books into L so no chance for an upgrade outside of an op-up. There's no way I'm taking a flight this long in Y on a UA 747...let alone paying for the experience.

kkjay77 Mar 20, 2008 9:14 am

Very good price, IMHO, but not really a MR material as it involves 6 day min. stay.
But if one wants to visit HKG, then fantastic price.
Too bad it can't be upgraded.

On a somewhat related note, to trans-pac united flights still serve free alcohol, or has that been cut like the trans-atlantic routes?

That could always make the L class ticket a little more bearable.

I also just brought up the $525 fare...very tempting.
One could hope for a buy-up for about $600 each way
.........to ease the pain.

Also SEA-HKG-LAX-PHX for $604 a-i on PL.

I would suppose that you had meant to say "post #499"

If one goes from SFO via LAX, the EQMs are over 15,500, RDM are 31,000 (and 34,000 if you include the value of the accrued 6 x 500 milers).
I've seen worse! ^

Boraxo Mar 20, 2008 12:06 pm

So for those of us that received the 2P/1P challenge offer, that's basically $600+$400 = $1000 for 1P status ^ plus 15K EQM (and ironically the EQM would put me over the top for 2P this year)

Tempting if I can quit my job - the 6-day min stay  is a deal-killer.

90minfromJFK-CDG Mar 20, 2008 12:07 pm

RT's on UA are also eligible for the 10% off promotion that many have received. Thought about doing a SFO-HKG MR, but 6 days is too many.

Does anyone know how one can book into W? It seems only V class is available.

V is upgradeable, tho . . . I'm just not sure how frequently upgrades occur on V-Class fares.
