Must complete travel by May 23. This specific routing cannot be booked using united.com. If you plan on staying 5 nights, Travelocity has a $100 coupon for a flight+hotel package.

You can actually pull it up on ual.com through a multi-city search for 244.70 all in. I priced it out for 2/24-2/25:

UA flight numbers 324-823-822-947

It looks like a good MR. Where is the most practical place to stay in Mexico for a night? I am not sure if the mexican immigration is familiar with MR. Any suggestions of what to say when ask why the very short stay? I am holding a reservation for 2/24-2/25. Anyone doing this MR? on the same date?

Um, a hotel in MEX. Say you're going for a business function.

Obviously, it has to be a hotel. I am hoping to get some specific hotel info from those who had an experience doing an MR to Mexico. As for the reason, that is a good one. Thanks.

Having done a couple Mexico MRs last year, I can tell you that the Mexican immigration folks could care less.

Just tell them you're in transito, and if they ask where, tell them. One guy got a kick out of it, and insisted on stamping my passport as a souvenir.

The last time I flew into MEX, I was enroute to CUN. Immigration was optional (I kid you not) but that would have meant some difficulties upon departure from CUN.

I love the MEX airport.

Why not a hostel? Stayed in some perfectly nice ones in DF area (right by Zocolo). Of course if cheap and sharing a room is not your cup of tea, then off to a hotel you go!

I would probably just priceline a 4 star or grab it on hotwire... should set you back around 70/night for the JW Marriott.

Thx for all the input. I am still debating about this run. I'm hoping to have a day to see the city but work requires me to be back the next day. I have till tomorrow to decide. If I miss this one, I'm sure there will be more MR fares coming for UA/CO/NW.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just tell them the truth. You have nothing to hide.

I have an itinerary on hold that gets into IAD at 7:16 AM, then leaves for MEX at 17:35. Would I be able to upgrade both legs with one CR-1? I don't believe that the fare breaks in IAD.

I dont think a CR-1 would work since it's international travel. This is what an int'l reservations agent told me last week when I inquired over a similar reservation. She said a SWU was the only option.

Given this is an L fare, a SWU would not work.

According to this chart on united.com, Mexico is in region 1. A CR-1, by definition, is a confirmed upgrade within region 1. And I believe a SWU would work (if a CR-1 would) since it's within region 1, where the fare class restrictions don't apply, as explained here.
