What is the Point of a Mileage Run?

What is the Point of a Mileage Run?
I can understand a quick mileage run to accrue enough miles to keep your gold or platnum status in some program. What other reason is there to do this? If you have the money to fly all over the place to gain miles, what do you need the miles for in the first place? is it just the thrill of flying all over the place?

I think the THRILL of a mileage run .. must be akin to the THRILL of mastering the search feature so you can find answers to the posters question .. and be the first to post the 'I TOLD you to use search' thread.

It seems as if the OP's questions has been provided by others in the form of suggestions of using the search function & providing him/her with links.
