When we send out "real" alerts, we'll try to keep the subject line short and meaningful, so you can figure out what is going on by looking at your cell phone. At the very least, you'll know there is an alert, and you can either check your email, or log onto FlyerTalk and read more.

Was there an error if I got this email from farealert?
I got the following email back. At first it says "invalid confirmation string" and then "Done" so I'm not sure if I'm really subscribed or not. Did anyone else get this extra email? Please explain, Scott or Mark...

- Results:
Invalid confirmation string. Note that confirmation strings expire
approximately 3 days after the initial subscription request. If your
confirmation has expired, please try to re-submit your original request
or

FYI, it looks like the error message that ScottTexas received was because he tried to confirm his subscription more than once. Once you confirm your subscription (by visiting the URL we send you), you'll get a "welcome" message, and then you are subscribed. There's nothing else you need to do.

I didn't read this entire thread, so maybe my question is already answered somewhere.
But anyhow, I tried to subscribe just now, and got an e-mail message saying that I was already subscribed.
At one time, I WAS on some sort of list run by ScottC, but I thought that I was no longer on it (since I hadn't received anything from that list in a very long time).

I spoke too soon anyway. Turns out there was already an e-mail message in my inbox (always a long list of unread messages) welcoming me to the FareAlert list. I didn't see it until AFTER I attempted to register. Doh!
