How to make ITA software NOT return codeshare flights?
Say I want to search for a trip that is UA metal only, is there anyway to make ITA software not display UA/US codeshare flights?
THanks |
If you are looking for a roundtrip from, say, LAX to NYC, you would use the following inputs:
From: LAX :: O:UA To: NYC :: O:UA An alternative method would be to limit your search to certain flight numbers. If you want only United flights with flight numbers between 1-1600, you would use the following inputs: From: LAX :: UA1-1600+ To: NYC :: UA1-1600+ |

What about booking ONLY codeshares?
For example, if there's a really good fare on CO, but I want to fly only NW metal, is there a way to bring that up? Or will the above command also bring up fares that are ticketed on other carriers, but only on that particular carrier's metal? |
Anyone know how to wildcard the destination in ITA? Say I don't care were I go, just so long as it is 4 hops and under $200.

The risk in doing that, is you'd lose out on potentially good hybrid itineraries. For example, despite 50% EQM for NW folks, a CO itin DCA-EWR-MSP-SFO with DCA-EWR on CO metal is still better than a DCA-DTW-MSP-SFO. |
The Lurker: I am simply amazed at the ITA guidance you have provided. For us borderline computer illiterates, how is it to be obtained?

For example, I'm in Washington, in the "from" field i would put in IAD::UA UA (2 segments). In the "to" field I would put a whole bunch of destination, for example NYC;PHL;PIT;CLT;RDU;CLE;CMH;IND;BVG;MHT;BOS;MSP::U A UA (2 segments to any of the above airports) Also, if you select the option to fly to any airport within 300 miles, then there will be a lot of results being returned by ITA. Make sure you disable airport change to make your life easier. |
I'm not sure why, but I often have trouble with the "within X miles" option. For example, I always use SFO;OAK rather than "within 25 miles of SFO" and always get more accurate information (and better fares) this way. It seems like the range option causes some fares to get pruned from the list.

The Lurker: Many thanks. Much info to digest there.

If you want to specify to use a particular airline's FARE, you can use the undocumented features that were posted here before. If you want to specify which airline operates the flight, you can use the O:XX+ thing that was posted earlier. Note that saying who operates the flight doesn't say whose flight number it is (for instance it could be a US flight with a UA flight number). Example: You want to use a UA fare, but on flights operated by US: From: WAS::O:US+ / f ua To: CHI::O:US+ / f ua This seems to return UA codeshare flight numbers on US-operated flights (connecting in CLT in this case). |
