Is Costa Rica good at this time of the year? I mean, why the low fares?

Bad weather season.

Costa Rica is still great anytime of the year , you just stand to have it pour at night or some afternoons.

I just picked up the IAD-SJO $298 flight last nightand used my CR1's to upgrade to first. I was actually on the innagural flight on President's Day weekend.

As far as the weather goes, it gets better near the end of the sale. I happen to like the green season over there.

BTW, UA has all kinds of cheap international flights available right now.

I just got back from a 3 day weekend in CR. Don't be afraid of the weather unless you are ONLY going for a tan. The weather in SJO was 50% cloudy, 45% sunny and 5% raining - about an hour a day. There are many things to do in C.R. Take advantage of the good rates, you won't be sorry. ^
