A friend needs to go from the Bay Area to Orlando on 2/19 and return on 2/23.

She has around 38,000 (extended) status miles on United, and is looking to get as close as possible to Premier Exec with this trip, with one more easy run coming soon after.

OAK-IAD-MCO-IAD-OAK will get you 6k+ miles for about the same price.

You could try OAK-LAX-EWR-IAD-MCO and back. Might need to do the red-eye going east just to get all those segments in.

Any suggestions on how to actually get this fare?

The stuff in the $230 range requires travel on T/W/S. There also must be "T" availability, which usually seems to disappear fast when you're going through IAD. I'm guessing this is a result that IAD is a hub for many UA flights to Europe.
